2. Cleveland Browns
Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota:
Well, that comes as a shock to me!
In all seriousness that's great to see an FCS guy right at the top of the draft!

At least they got it right a little earlier in the article:
...but a terrific performance at the Senior Bowl has North Dakota State's Carson Wentz surging past both of them...

What heinous crime did he commit to end up in Cleveland?

Not yet, but I have my fingers crossed that Cleveland passes.

I'm actually shocked this is the first error (known anyway) considering the # of publications/media.

Not technically on topic, but hey, it's the offseason.
If Wentz does go #2 in the draft, I wonder what kind of impact that might have on recruiting in general across the FCS. I know it'll help NDSU specifically, but I'd have to imagine that other schools might benefit from it as well. We've had FCS players get drafted in the first round before, but it's been a while (I think maybe Rodgers-Cromartie and Flacco in '08 were the last ones?), and never has an FCS player gone #2 in the draft.
If a kid is maybe on the fence between a MVFC team or a MAC team and might be thinking that a MAC team would give them a better chance to make it to the NFL...disregarding the fact that that's not a great way to look at your future...having an FCS player go right at the top of the NFL draft would show them that if you're good enough, it doesn't matter what level you play at, scouts will notice you and you'll get your chance. Or are kids pretty much past those type of questions anyway, having seen a lot of great players come out of the FCS anyway?

Good post. I believe it is already helping NDSU, and should be significant next year. We have 12ish walkons, some of them with full scholarship offers. We just got a JUCO who was going to Toledo. All the draft advertising, ESPN love, COA is giving us MAC level of recruiting. Considering we develop talent really well, that should be an ominous sign for the rest of the FCS.

Meh. It happens. I'm more curious to hear how Jax St fans feel about Carson being so high in the draft.

And in Browns like fashion, I wouldn't be surprised to see them draft a QB from North Dakota.
If he goes at No. 2, he'd be the second highest drafted college player from the FCS. Ed "Too Tall" Jones was drafted No. 1 by the Cowboys in 1974 out of Tennessee State.
Other notable Tennessee State alumni that played in the NFL include Richard Dent, Joe Gilliam (preceded Terry Bradshaw throwing 9 TD and 17 TD in his career, ok, maybe only notable to Steeler fans), Jim Kelly (no, not that Jim Kelly), and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
