"Jacob Huesman did everything he could for Chattanooga while cementing his status of one of the best all-time FCS dual-threat quarterbacks."

He misspelled JSU.

No - VMI is clearly still in the SoCon... "84 -- Receptions by Aaron Sanders, setting a single-season VMI record. He needs eight catches in 2016 to become the Keydets' all-time leader."

I just hope we can find a way to stay in the mix.

UTC's plenty good enough. Their season, I think, will rest in how well they replace their QB.

As I have said dozens of times, it is not small task to replace a great player at the FCS level. They don't come around all that often, and they tend to make those around them better.

Not only do you have to replace a core contributor, but everyone else tends to take a step backwards because you then have to compensate for losing a player that made them all better. Some guys will have great seasons because the guy they rely on is a great player. It takes years sometimes to fill in those holes.

I kind of expect Western to take a step back considering they have to replace Troy Mitchell. The QBs we currently have on the roster never performed well when Mitchell had injury issues. Hopefully that was just because of not enough 1st team reps.

Stats aside, IMO Huessmann is clearly not among the all time best in FCS as a dual threat. Performing at a high level in and winning playoff games and titles trumps stats, and he fell short in that area compared to other dual threat greats like Armanti Edwards, Tracy Ham, Kerry Joseph, Brock Landers, Eric Ward, Vernon Adams, Ingle Martin, etc.

I guess you missed the Mercer game.

Catamount back-up quarterback Wes Holcombe (http://www.catamountsports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/wes_holcombe_913977.html) orchestrated the game-winning drive, completing four passes for 41 yards including a 19-yard strike to Karnorris Benson (http://www.catamountsports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/karnorris_benson_758877.html) and a 12-yard hook-up with tight end Tyler Sexton (http://www.catamountsports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/tyler_sexton_852458.html). Newsome did the rest, recording 45 total yards on the final drive including the 22-yard score. Benson finished with a team-high 54 receiving yards.

Holcombe came on midway through the third quarter for starter Troy Mitchell (http://www.catamountsports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/troy_mitchell_800899.html), who left the game with a minor shoulder injury to his throwing arm. Holcombe finished 10-of-16 for 77 yards - each his single-game career high - while Mitchell was 9-for-16 for 76 yards and a second quarter touchdown pass. Mitchell also rushed for a team-high 79 yards while Newsome finished with 59 yards as a part of recording 104 all-purpose yards that did include a team-best five receptions and 22 receiving yards in the win.

I rarely ever mention UTK, but does anyone remember what happened the year after that irreplaceable guy who is currently playing Denver graduated from Knoxville?

Mocs will be fine...and they appreciate being downgraded to just "in the mix" over all the likely winners of the SoCon next year. They always play better with a chip on their shoulder.
