Yup - MTSU, who bolted for the "greener" pastures of Bowl Championship football earned it's first ever bowl bid this year - to the Motor City Bowl. So how did the Blue Raider faithful respond??? With a big yawn - as of today, the school has only sold 500 tickets xlolx xlolx xlolx

You gotta link, jon? We've got a MTSU troll who comes over to our board runnin' his trap all the time. I didn't help when we hired 2 former MTSU coaches either.
Sure would love to throw that in his face.

I'll find one for ya. Guy was on the radio whining about the critical articles in the paper blasting MTSU for poor showing.
And the "But it's in Detroit" drivel was what he was using to try to defend MTSU for it's pathetic showing.

Here's one:
MTSU bowl ticket sales are lagging
Only 500 sold thus far
By ADAM SPARKS
Gannett Tennessee
MURFREESBORO — Middle Tennessee State can only hope, at this point, that its on-field performance at the Motor City Bowl will match its play from this past season.
Off-field, it already has been a different story, so far.
MTSU has sold only about 500 tickets for the Dec. 26 Motor City Bowl, well shy of the Blue Raiders' goal of 4,000 tickets. The Blue Raiders will face Central Michigan at Detroit's Ford Field.

MTSU fans eagerly await bowl destination
Detroit likely, but Big Easy is possible
By ADAM SPARKS
Gannett Tennessee
MURFREESBORO — For Middle Tennessee State student and Chicago native Bobby Raymond, a Blue Raider bowl trip could move closer to home.
And like most fans, MTSU's bowl limbo has put holiday plans on hold for now.
"I want (MTSU) to come to Detroit, and I guess that's for personal reasons because I'm only about a four-hour drive away in Chicago," Raymond said. "I'll have family and friends there, so I'm hoping we're going to (the Motor City Bowl). But I guess we won't know until Saturday."
Raymond is like most MTSU fans awaiting word of their team's bowl destination, marking the first-ever Division I-A bowl for the Blue Raiders.

How many average "football Joe's" can even get to Hawaii.xlolx
Not to mention the cost of staying throughout the bowl week.
You can drive to Detroit and stay at Aunt "Whoever's" house.
Cost...............A couple of tanks of gas.
They won't have to worry bout an invite to another bowl with 500 tickets.

Hawaii is tough to get to on short notice and very expensive this time of the year. It wasn't surprising they didn't sell 20,000, but most high schools would have done at least as well if not better

They should do what Hawaii and Boise State (until recently) did and just host their own bowl and then get an invite. That way, they can play a home game instead of having to travel all over the place.

Thats what Hawaii is doing this year. Playing in their own bowl on X-mas eve.

Oddly enough, the Univ of Houston, after selling out Robertson Stadium for a nationally-televised C-USA Championship Game only has 2000 tickets sold to the Liberty Bowl, their biggest bowl game in years. This coming from a school that would like to one day be in the Big XII or SEC...
As I've told the Cougar fans I've talked to, Rice has even sold more than 5000 tickets to their bowl...

It will be interesting to see how many tickets "Shmoo U" supporters buy for a game in their back yard. Ford Field may be a ghost town. I can just think of the advertisers lining up to buy air time for that game...

Only the hard core fans would want to go to Detriot the day after Christmas to see a bottom tier bowl game.
I'm guessing the 500 tickets are for family and girlfriends.

If tonight's Championship game was in Detroit instead of Chattanooga, would you be less likely to attend? If the Hens were p[laying, I'd go to the game - location is far less important than being a FAN. :twocents:

MTSU was not expecting to a bowl game after it lost to Troy for the Sun Belt title. Because of the new rule this year that says 6-6 teams cannot be picked ahead of 7-5 teams, MTSU (7-5) got into the Motor City Bowl while teams like Kansas, Pittsburgh, Arizona, and Washington State from major conferences sit at home.

Sure it may be cold in Detroit, but the game is played inside. Just goes to show how much more exciting the FCS is compared to the BCS. DAMN FUNNY!!!!!xlolx xlolx xlolx xlolx
I went to a high school football game this year that had 13,000 at it. Hell, Sam Houston had about 1000 fans or so at SHSU-Montana playoff game in 2004 in 20 degree temps.

I've seen Troy several times and MTSU once, JSU would have a better than average chance again either. JSU would have close to no chance against any of the semi finalist. Troy got beat an awful UAB team by somewhere around 20 points. Troy is slow for a top level CS team and very slow for a BS team and weak in the line of scimmage.

Blue Raiders preparing for Motor City
Bowl ticket total reaches 2,610
MT Media Relations
The 2006 Blue Raider coaching staff is loaded with bowl game coaching experience.
BOWL TICKETS REACH 2,610: Middle Tennessee Director of Athletics Chris Massaro announced today that ticket sales for the Motor City Bowl is at 2,610 as of close of business on Tuesday. "We feel like the 2,610 is a good number for us," said Massaro. "I want to thank our fans and supporters for their public demonstration of support for our first bowl game in the I-A era. As a point of reference, the University of Memphis played in the Motor City Bowl last year and used just under 1,100 tickets."
