Somebody help me out. Why do schools (FBS and FCS) hire coaches that are coordinators and have no head coaching experience when there are plenty of DII very successful head coaches that would probably be very successful and have track records as a HC?

That's one of my top 2 choices for TTU! Won't happen though...

Dynamite special teams coordinator that's for sure. Who knows how he will do as a head coach.

Congratulations on picking up Elder, he has done great things in Knoxville and I am sure he will bring your team back up to snuff in no time.

I'm guessing the interview matters a bit and could even the playing field. I'd also bet that higher-level assistants have better recruiting channels on average than lower-level head coaches, especially if said assistants served as recruiting coordinators.
