View Full Version : What BS teams have your favorite CS team beat in it's history?

only counts if it was after the dividing of the two subdivisions

App has 6 wins against BS opponents

all 6 were against Wake Forest (aka why they won't schedule us anymore)

but we also have some quality close calls:
22-15 loss at Auburn on Sept. 4, 1999
23-12 loss at Clemson on Sept. 6, 1997
20- 13 loss at South Carolina on Sept. 7, 1985

(these were even closer than the scores indicate)

They were ACC champs this year. Somehow doubt they would have trouble with you now ;)

Don't think any BS teams have beat NDSU since 73 (was that the year?).

Ok I misread the question, I thought it was what BS teams have beat your CS team, not the other way around.

So disregard my first 2 posts.

Ball State is the only BS team NDSU has beat since 73, I believe. Unless we did beat Troy some other time.

Don't be too sure.....have you seen the quality (or lack thereof) of ACC football this year?

This is not meant as Smack against Wake, but more a reflection of the sorry state of ACC football. I have no doubt that we would beat NC State if we played them at end of year and also no doubt that Furman would win in a best of 10 series with North Carolina (lost 45-42 @ UNC; 500+ yards of offense). I'll also mention that Richmond defeated Duke at Duke.

Perhaps I should amend that to say the sorry state of NC BS teams. I wish we could have played Wake this year as, for the first time ever, it would have determined the best NC college football team...... :twocents:

The Hens beat Rutgers so many times in the 60s and 70s they had to stop playing us.

Temple did the same in the 80s

We now have a 500 record against Navy since the mid 80s and beat them in 03' when they went to a bowl game.

Delaware dosent get too many offers to play I-A schools but give Maryland credit. They scheduled the Hens in 08'.

Man, I remember those Colgate teams of the late 60's and throughout the 70's. You were fearless with your scheduling and were very, very talented -- great players like Marv Hubbard, Mark Murphy, Mark van Eeghan, Doug Curtis, Rich Erenberg (although I think he was an '80's era RB), ....

Discouraging to witness the damaging impact of spiraling tuition costs on a program that has to make due without the offsetting benefits of athetic scholarships. Families of great players who once would take on the cost of tuition to attend a Patriot or Ivy school are now usually choosing the big time or one of the many scholarhip FCS conferences. I think the decline has been most precipitous in the Ivies, beginning in the late 1970's. In fact, I remember Dartmouth being ranked in the Top 10 or Top 15 in the country back in 1970 or 1971, .... Long way from that now for all of the Ancient 8, ......

Boston? Boston what? Boston College? Boston University? Boston College isn't even in Boston, it's in Chestnut Hill, Mass, so you might want to refer to it as BC. That's the widely accepted abreviation for Boston College. Boston doesn't make me think of any college.

North Carolina

Close calls:
Clemson in '03 (28-17...had we had an offense in '03, we could have destroyed them...they finished in the top 15)

Wofford has had some close calls (this year against South Carolina, UL-Lafayette in OT in 1999, Marshall in 1998), but here are the wins the Terriers have pulled off all-time against current I-A teams (even though some weren't I-A when these games took place).

UL-Monroe (2000)
Central Florida (1986)
East Carolina (1959)
Auburn (1950)
Clemson (1925, 1926 & 1933)
South Carolina (1895, 1896, 1901 & 1917)

Also, an honorable mention has to go out for beating Furman in the first college football game played in South Carolina in 1889.

Tied Army 24-24 (1980)

Beat Navy 24-9 (1987)
Beat UConn 35-19 (1991)
Beat Buffalo 48-19 (1994)
Beat Buffalo 37-26 (2002)

Not sure when UConn became I-A, during the 1980's we beat them four years straight, 1981-84.

Sorry Nap, didn't mean to get your panties in a wad! I believe it was BC...down here in ACC country that's the only Boston anyone cares about. I could be wrong on that though, I'll look into it further....in fairness, I do believe it was before '78 anyway.

I do not think Elon played or beat Duke in the 70'S and the same goes for SC State playing Clemson. GaSou did play ECU in 85 and 86. I think they played Miami in the mid 90's as well. No CS school has a better giant killer history than Furman. Since 79, they have tied or beaten USC,NCSU(twice), UNC, Vandy, GaTech. The Citadel beat USC and Arkansas in addition to Army , Navy and Air Force. I think App beat USC in 76. Well UR went to I-AA Status in 1983, since then they have beaten:

Virginia Tech (1985)
Arkansas State (2000)
Duke (2006)

Close losses include UVA 2001 (16-17) and Vandy the same year (22-28)

Prior to reclassifying in 1983, UR had beaten many many teams which are now in the BS, including just about all the current ACC members and many of the Big East.
