Until one of my more technically proficient brothers is able to post, just close your eyes and imagine ***** brown jerseys with white numberals and the word "LEHIGH" across the top. A large single stripe over each shoulder.
Pants are gold with the Mountain Hawk logo on each hip. Helmet is solid gold with brown facemask.
Away unis are the same, except jersey is white with ***** brown numerals, letters and stripes.
You can open your eyes now. ;)

Well 6',3", 275 may be a bit undersized but given that Steve was the anchor of arguably the best running game in the PL and given his credentials (not including the accolades received after the 2004 season (including 1st Team ALl Patriot League)...
Steve Bono
General: Selected as a co-captain for the 2004 season by his teammates during spring practice.
2003: Started all 11 games at right guard, extending his games started streak to 26…earned third varsity letter…part of offensive line that helped Lafayette finish first in the Patriot League in total offense…named to I-AA Athletic Directors’ Association Academic All-Star Team…CoSIDA Academic All-District II First-Team selection…earned a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll…male recipient of the 2003-04 Maroon Club Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
2002: Named to the Division I-AA Academic All-Star team and the 2002 Verizon District II Academic All-America first team...earned a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll...started all 12 games on an offensive line that helped the Leopards finish second in the league in passing offense and sacks allowed...secured second varsity letter.
2001: Achieved a place on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll...saw moderate action at the varsity level, starting at right guard during the second half of the season and obtaining his first varsity letter as a freshman.
...I'll gladly take 5 more Steves' for the upcoming season. Now if you were referring to the size of the picture...I'll conceded the point. ;)

Steve Bono ... interesting - remember the QB out of Norristown, PA that went to UCLA and then the pros? I think he was the #1 rated high school QB back in like 1980 or something.
... and 'yes' it was clearly a size of the pic comment ;) - the guy is clearly a stud and you gotta love the academic performance.

I believe some Griz fan said the colors they have now where the original Griz colors and Read(?) brought the gold and mustard to Montana when he took the job. Any Griz fans care to help?
Ronbo

Not Don Read who came from Portland State, Green and Silver. But Jack Swarthout who came to Montana from Texas. That's why we went to Texas Orange and Gold in 1967. I believe Tennessee uses a similar Orange. The colors went back to the original Maroon and Silver in 1996.
Here is the old colors. And by the way, how come no one ever calls Delawares or McNeese State's or South Dakota State's or North Dakota State's Gold mustard. Look it's called Gold.

As I'm sure you know, but those from other schools may not, the official colors from the time of Coach Swarthout through Coach Read (1967-1995) were copper, silver, and gold (some say in deference to Montana's long, and sometimes inglorious, mining history). The home uniforms looked orange (and were, actually) because copper was such a hard color to match.
Some old Griz from that era prefer the older colors, but virtually all Griz fans realize that the new color combo is much more marketable--and has been one of the reasons Montana is a top 50 collegiate seller of team gear--the only I-AA on the Top 50 list. Unfortunately, the football team sees none of this revenue, which is just plain weird, considering the fact that the primary reason for the school's high ranking in this sales list is because of the football team's successes.

Georgia Southern will never break the top 50 or 250 because 75% of this area buy uga stuff and 20% Georgia Tech. Besides, after our logo change in 1998, GSU has not kept the rights to their merchandise, not letting much of their stuff be sold off campus which is stupid. This is improving though.

Ever think about all the maroons in the PL? Fordham, Lafayette and Colgate, and Lehigh's brown isn't much different, as is Holy Cross's purple. I look at the league banners in Stabler Arena and can't help but note that the color scheme for the league is pretty dull--only Bucknell's orange and blue have any 'spice'. The rest are G'town's blue w/silver, Navy's blue w/gold, and Army's black w/gold.

I love the fact that the unis in the PL are more classic in style. If you ask me it speaks to the awesome history and tradition in the league. Yeah, Jerry founded the school three decades ago and still helps raise money to pay for its expansion. He's been in ill health this year but still managed to get out to follow the womens hoops team to the Sweet 16. He's getting up there in age and weight.
Thanks for the acknowledgement on the gear. We have a new logo scheme that I have a feeling will be integrated into helmets & uniforms this fall.

Is that the same helmet as pictured below? Looks like only one stripe and the logo looks different. Also, what's up with the attendance figures for Liberty games? W&M game was announced at over 9,000 and there was only a fraction of that there. Jerry's not fibbing is he?

Bingo, Tribe. I didn't think we had the logo on the helmets this past season but apparently we did.
As for attendance figures, nearly every school in the nation announces paid attendance. Several businesses buy up blocks of tickets and hand them out. It creates a watered down product as far as tickets are concerned. But its hardly what I would call a fib.
And by the time we played you guys last year, our season was already in tailspin. And that doesn't encourage a big walkup on a Saturday night. We're still working on creating a quality game environment.

I assume the student body is ambivalent towards the program (as is true at many I-AAs). Liberty situation seems especially bad. If they can't give the tickets away, that's sad. I thought the first match-up with W&M would generate some interest in Lynchburg. Below is a view of how few people were there. It's the home side your looking at.

I can't figure out a way to post Northeastern's jerseys, but they're plain vanilla.
Black with white numbers and "NORTHEASTERN" across the front at home, and white with black (outlined in red) numbers on the road.
Someone told me that we were switching to red uni's on the road this year.
Here'sa link to a site with the home uni..

Tribe - The City of Lynchburg's apathy regarding the only show in town is amazing. The attendance at that game was particularly poor for a matchup that we would love to have on a regular basis in the future. Keep in mind, we've only existed since 1971 and didn't really get up & rolling in a big way until the Late '80s. So we don't have a long history in the community or a large local alumni base. The vast majority of our students come from across the country & then head back home after graduation making it difficult to connect to the school. But as our friends up in Harrisonburg have shown us, if you build a winner then attendance won't be an issue.

Sly Fox,
Do the Liberty faithful travel at all? I'm wondering what kind of turnout we will see in Williamsburg this year.
Based on last year, I would say a continuing series between W&M and Liberty is unlikely. VMI-W&M is always well attended and most in Williamsburg would like to see a regular series with HU.
Sly Fox
May 30th, 2005, 09:38 PM
We don't have a rep for travelling particularly well in general. But its very driveable so we could have a decent contingent. A lot depends on how we do the prior two weeks against U-Conn & Youngstown St. If we put up good enough showings, it might light a fire under the students to make the trip.
As for your series with VMI, having the history between your schools helps tremendously. Their program is in such disarray right now that they can't be competitive with you on the field. But that won't stop their well-oiled machine of an alumni organization from keeping them from turning out.

Actually it would be red uniforms at HOME, not on the road, my bad.
The red uni's posted above are few years old - probably early to mid 1990s. I think these will be a more brigher red (a la WKU) as opposed to the burgundy-ish red in the photo you posted. The school is using a standardized color palate to ensure that the football team's red is the same shade as the basketball team's, etc.
One year the football team was wearing burgundy, the women's basketball team was wearing something akin to cranberry and the baseball team had road pinstripes that were cardinal (like Stanford's uni's).
When the school launched its new marks for athletics, one of the drivers was consistency in application of a color palate, which makes a ton of sense to me.

We had the same problem with our Teal and Bronze. I was told that we were more or less at the mercy of the supplier and sometimes had to take what we could get as a 'close' color. But I think that is less of a concern as our uni's seem to be better matched.

I hope you don't go to all red a la WKU though, I'm not a fan of tone on tone. I think WKU had a version with grey pants and red tops that looked sharp. I do like the black pants with red tops from above. BTW, that's a picture of Shawn Brady, so it can't be too old, but it's not last year either, note the black face mask, which was from the triangle helmet.

yeah, i was actually thinking about that. with the home jerseys, I think we need either the maroon and white to be switched, or go with gold pants. i'm not a big fan of white pants for home jerseys in general because the visiting team normally wears the lighter colors...

Here's our new away jerseys. I'm not real sure about the green pants... its gonna take some time to get used to them. It's a little difficult to read the numbers from a distance, too, but they are talking about getting a thicker green border around the numbers.
P.S. This might be a little off-topic, but what is that Bobcat reaching for? Looks like some attempted cuppage to me- maybe a little illegal use of the hands? ;)

You can open your eyes now. ;)
Man, why did you guys wimp out and start calling yourselves the mountain hawks? Engineers was cool. You played us (UC Davis) back in 1977 in the D2 semis. Great game. I bet the unis are still the same though. Kind of admire that.

I know it is early but has anyone heard about uni changes in store for next year, and as a secondary question how many of you have feelings about superfluous piping on uniforms. App State borders on too much piping for my taste, but manages to pull it off well (kudos for the school name and mascot on the chest) but others, especially D-IA teams, tend to over do their piping.

We are still a fairly young team. Sam Houston only had 12 schollies to offer this season.
Cartez Beall Safety 5-10 185 Longview
Antonio Cobb Defensive line 6-0 245 Pflugerville
Carlton Cobey Safety 5-10 210 Woodbridge, VA (Coffeyville JC)
Coty Gatewood Defensive line 6-2 270 Kilgore
Ellis Knight Safety 6-1 185 Ardmore, OK
Frank Onwuachi Safety 5-11 195 Humble
Jarvis Pippins Cornerback 5-9 175 Longview
Chris Poullard Running back 5-10 185 Killeen / Shoemaker
Akeem Retig Offensive line 6-7 360 Carlisle (Baylor)
Magic Robinson Running back 5-8 190 Klein Forest
Jesse Trejo Defensive line 6-2 290 Baytown / Lee
Taylor Wilkins Kicker 5-7 150 LaMarque
5 DB's in this class, but we will be losing quite few seniors after the 2006 season in the secondary. We could have two 6-7 OL on the left side this season. We had a RS-freshman tackle transfer from Missouri last season at 6-7, 315 and Retig at LG 6-7, 360. When Retig signed in 2002 with Baylor, he was ranked as the 38th best tackle in the nation by Max Emfinger.

In my HIGHLY biased opinion, I think Nicholls has one of the best logos in all of college football (Although I much prefer the older logo to the more updated version).
I'm glad we went back to plain silver pants with the white jerseys. I LOVE the color combination...very simple but professional. The home unis are red jerseys with white numbers and the same silver pants. This goes back to what the team was wearing in the late 90s before switching to blue home jerseys and silver pants with a "Denver Broncos" type blue stripe. The away unies were hideous with SILVER jerseys and pants and the Broncos-style stripe going from the armpit to the ankle.

First of all, is it really necessary to have the GIANT letters across the front?
I think that looks so cheesy. As if the team desparately needs people to know exactly who it is they're playing (as if people who came to the game didn't already know).
Second of all, "Mo" State? Is this a joke?
Not Mizzu State...not Missouri State....Mo State.
As in Moesha State? Or perhaps Slow Mo State (SMS)?

Probably the worst uniform decision ever.
It's too bad too because the rest of the jersey looks damn nice.
