That website is a bit incorrect regarding our logos. The GS logo, and the Georgia Southern logo with the eagle on top have all been around since 1999. The eagle head medallion was our only logo for the longest time, and now it is only our academic logo.

Our AD yesterday at an Eagle Club meeting said right now none of the logos looked good on our helmets, so the numbers are still the plan. But he said they do want to put a logo on the helmet for branding purposes. Stupid.

I don't find them very exciting.

Furman's have never been about flash. GaSouthern falls into that same category. If you taking about exciting, flashy, fresh then your talkin "The Ducks" I like them too. Most schools update uni's following the trends of color panels, seams and funky number fonts. I like that Furman has uniform tradition (The new Nike uni's are rumored to be based on Ole Miss).

I would like to know from the APP fans if they've ever seen two teams that look good playing each other like FU/APP did in the 05 playoff. You have Furman in all white, APP in all black. Bright sunlight, cold crisp weather. The game was visually awesome.

I can appreciate the age and tradition and with those things going for Furman, keep your unis. However, I think somehow GSU's succeed in this way a little more.

I think Oregon's uniforms are pretty much god awful.

I just... don't find the purple on white really attractive. The purple doesn't jump off the white, the white is boring and the stripes start to look repetetive. This is all opinion, of course, so what does mine really matter anyway? But I'll take Furman in the purple over white anyday.

I like the Furman designs...only I wish someone would figure out how to create white shells that match white unis and purple that matches the unis too. Looking at the pictures, it seems as though the purple on the shells are one shade, the shoulder stripes are another shade and the numbers are yet another. And they aren't the only team where this is evident.

Maroons… I know your an EKU fan so you could probably not give a care. I'm talking about the tradition at Furman built from Dick Sheridan. He started the uniform look built around the diamond F. I hated it when I was young and when I was at Furman. But now I love the simplicity of the look. Like it or not it says Furman Football. And there are many high schools in NC, SC and GA that have converted the icon as their own logo design.

Speaking of purple Furman played a couple of years with purple pants part of the away uniform. WCU has killed that for me now.:smiley_wi

I am a huge fan of tradition and simplicity. I love the tradition and uniforms of teams like Alabama, Penn State, Michigan, LSU, USC ect. in I-A and Furman, Georgia Southern, Delaware ect. in I-AA. I am not a huge fan of purple, but Furman's uniforms makes purple look good.

I think Furman's and GSU's uniforms (and many others) look good for another reason, and I hope I'm able to convey it properly.

It's not so much the tradition of the uniform (although that's good, too), but it's the reputation of the team. When I see that F in the diamond, it brings immediate respect (again, there are other teams that fit the bill as well).

Kind of like the names of rock bands. "The Beatles" was kind of a stupid name, but once they became who they are, it was cool because of their success.

Make sense?

Yeah, pretty much so. I know it's not the schools' faults since the jerseys and helmets come from 2 separate manufacturers and are made from difference materials. I just wish I could see more cohesiveness in all the colors. To me, it just makes the uniform...well...un-uniform.

Tod, you made a great point. Coach Sheridan created the Diamond F logo with a specfic purpose in mind. It stood for the foundation of what he felt Furman Football stood for. If a former player visits the board they could explain in greater detail. Every coach since Sheridan leaving to go to NCST has either played or coached under the Coach. So the tradition of the Diamond F, the four points, etc… lives on.

There has to be some other schools out there whose logo is not just an icon of design too.

The helmets will be a darker blue (as shown) with new dark blue facemasks.

The stripes and #'s will still be on there. They just aren't shown in those pictures because it is pre-season and they don't put the stripe and #'s on until show time.

Noooo! Keep the uniforms and helmets! They're great.

From The Helmet Project ( http://www.nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/ ), on the GSU helmets:

"Georgia Southern's football program began in 1982, and the team used just one helmet design for its first 24 years."

The "Helmet Project" hasn't updated our helmets. They have the one we used our 1st season. After that season the logo has changed to a curved bottom.
Here's what he needs:

I would especially appreciate your help in filling in the "missing" CURRENTLY-USED helmets for any college listed at this site. There are ***TWO*** things that I MUST have in order to add a helmet image for the missing teams:

1. As many photographs(NOT drawings!) as are necessary to show CLEARLY what the helmet looks like (usually no more than two are needed); and,
2. A digital copy of the logo printed on the decal worn on the helmet (if there is one).

Clear photographs (preferably in COLOR) are necessary so that I can accurately depict the size, placement, and orientation of the logo or numerals (if any) relative to the helmet shell itself. I cannot draw the helmet accurately from just a description, sorry; I MUST have a photograph to refer to. The only exception to this "rule" is if the side of the helmet is "blank" (with no decals); for those, a description of the helmet will suffice (i.e., "black helmet, red faceguard, no stripes"). I cannot use drawings of helmets in place of photographs; please do not send me drawings of helmets done by other people. I have no way of knowing if they're accurate or not; clear photographs are, of course, unambiguous. Other things that I cannot use in place of photographs of actual helmets include: photographs of "mini-helmets", photographs of replica helmets, photographs of toys, lamps, clothing, novelty items, etc. featuring helmet pictures.

Once he gets this information, he's pretty quick to update.

This is just pure speculation, but, in keeping with Hatcher's idea of taping over the logos and making the players wear their jerseys inside-out because no one has earned those rights yet, I expect him to remove the names from the backs of the jerseys.
Also because he idolized Erk and because Erk didn't allow the names on the backs, either. You know,TEAM, ME.

It really isn't that unbelievable, I'm a classy and intelligent fellow. I grew up in the nicer part of Augusta and a good number of my friends go to Furman. I drink wine, smoke fine cigars, play golf, think logically, etc. I assure you that, albiet we are rivals, we have more in common than you would think. So basically, it's one of those "tradition for tradition's sake" things that I absolutely abhor.

College football is about tradition. Or atleast at Notre Dame, USC, Alabama, Michigan, Clemson, Ohio State, Georgia Southern, Harvard, Yale, etc.

It gives the program an identity to be proud of. It serves as a constant reminder of the gloriful past. Nothing gets people pumped up like traditions. When they dot the I at Ohio State, when the Tigers rub Howard's rock and run down the hill, when the GSU Scramble occurs, etc.

I mean, why have a fight song? Why even have a band? You could just play rock music out of the PA system. College football is college football because there is a band, there are ritualist traditions, there are fight songs, there is that lucky game day shirt that must be worn no matter how holy or stinky it is, there are the cheers, and the list goes on and on.

I'm sorry your team has no gloriful past to be proud of and hold in your hearts.

It sounds like you might like the NFL or Arena football a little better than College Football. You know, most NFL and Arena teams have fake grass, flashy uniforms, and a bunch of other gimicky crap.

I just love how Georgia southern is in the same breath as the othersxnodx xnodx xnodx xnodx

College football is about tradition.

Agreed 100%.

Some traditions are crap, though. Gray masks just for the sake of it, for example.

Plenty, actually most, teams (including many great teams) have moved on and have more respect for their school colors.

I completely understand where GSU fans come from. Even down to the face mask! Tradition is tradition.

As Hen fans, we know our helmet is a way of paying tribute to the history of college football and coaching liniage.

Although I agree with the change in the color of the blue in our helmet made in 2004. I cant stand the change in number style from block numbers to a Denver Bronco like style. It still dosent look right on a Delaware uniform.

Also, our field surface is GRASS, even after we lost a home game due to poor conditions two years ago, the money was spent to fix the drainage and resod to keep it GRASS.

I say you just keep everything about the Griz uniforms the same. That retro look does not go well...too much Indianapolis Colts for me. The jerseys from this past year were awesome...and the helmet should always be the same. And keep the names off the back, because it is team unity that matters...names on the back seems conceded.

A good looking uniform from a large mega supplier does not a good team make. It is the players inside the uniform and the coaching staff that leads them. That being said I think that the So. Ill uniforms look very good and might open Rawlings up for some more contracts.

It's a simple issue of credibility with recruits.

Recruits see Nike, Adidas, Under Armor and say "that's a good program".

They see Rawlings, Russel, etc. and say "what's wrong with them that they couldn't get a good company to make their uniforms?"

Obviously once you actually have the team out on the field it doesn't matter if your uniforms are made by "Bill Bob's clothin' place on main".

I love Delaware's uniforms with the block numbers lots better.

I also like YSU's 1982 throwbacks, they look sharp.

I forgot to mention that they brought back the script "Penguins" along the left side of the helmet.

I also forgot to mention that they were selling those jerseys for $100 and the helmets for $200 after the game. So, if you liked them that much...

Here's Brown's home uniform:

I didnt realize you went back to those Uni's, but I actually do like the Brown/Silver/Red combo. Last time I checked you had those Brown & white uni's with the white helmet and the bear claw, when did they go away?

I know, the pics are small but it's all I can find right now. Personally, I don't like the unis. I've never cared for the Denver Broncos-style armpit stripes.

I think they switched about 3 or 4 years ago.

:pumpuke:

No offense, but I've NEVER been a fan of simply putting the name on the helmets in script... the ONLY thing worse is puttin HALF the name on the helmets in script.... GATE, GRIZ.... sorry, that's just my opinion.

Eh...while I do think that the away unis did need a little more color in them I don't like the HUGE stripes up the sides of the jerseys. Some simple sleeve stripes or shoulder stripes would be better.

Also, the silver on the home jerseys just look somewhat high-schoolish to me. xtwocentsx

I agree, you have to decide if you want simple or modern uni's. Right now they are mostly simply with that stripe which indicates modern. If you want that stripe then the rest of the uni's must also be more modern to match. Of course you should have stayed with the old ones which were one of my FCS favorites!!
