Titans' Dougherty signs with Jaguars

The Tallahassee Titans' loss is the Jacksonville Jaguars' gain.
In need of another quarterback during a season that saw the Jaguars lose starter Byron Leftwich to injury, Jacksonville signed quarterback Ben Dougherty to their practice squad Thursday night.

The move ends any chance of Dougherty playing for the Titans. The fledgling arena football league team made the former Florida A&M standout their first signee in October, and they hoped that Dougherty would be a leader on the field and attract fans to the Civic Center when they open the season on Feb. 12.
It was a shock to me, Titans coach Keven Jackson said on Friday. I'm very proud of him. Ben is a first-class guy. I wish him nothing but the best.
Dougherty completed a FAMU-record 62.4 percent of his passes for 5,231 yards and 32 touchdowns in 2002-04. He will join another former Rattler quarterback, Quinn Gray, on the Jaguars. Gray is the backup to Garrard.
Jackson said he will begin the search for another quarterback immediately. The Titans signed former FAMU and Leon High standout Riley Bell on Thursday afternoon. He is the only quarterback currently under contract with the Titans.
I think we'll find somebody to step right in, Jackson said.
