according to the site, ASU originally requested 7,500 tickets but have now requested 12k or more. UMASS requested 1,000 tickets and says they probably won't use them all. I know in my crew heading there we are bringing around 30 people. :nod:

I dont know where you got the impression that we wont use all 1000. From what im told... UMass wants more as well.

I skimmed through that...looks like they said they didn't use even half their allotted last time but hope to use all 1,000 this time. I for one hope they bring a ton. I always like talking to opposing fans before the game

In '98, we had about 800 there (as opposed to GSU's 10,000). I'm hoping we do a lot better this year, but we will be heavily outnumbered by ASU fans.

Don't rag on the UMass fans too much--it's not like Amherst to Chatt with less than seven days advance purchase is a bargain.
Let's see a game in, say, Albany and then see who brings the fans...

No one is saying travel time does not matter, just stating that the Apps will have the "Home Feild Advantage" in Chatanooga no matter what side they get put on

I think App will bring as many as can find tickets. A lot of students and alums are very concerned here that it's going to sell out early. I plan on getting to the ticket office tomorrow morning around 7 (it opens at 9) to get some tix. Unfortunately most students were unable to purchase tickets last night following the game due to our *ahem* "post-game pep rally."

Quite a few, as I recall from last year. I sat in the general section (not part of either school's allotment), and there were a good handful of local Chattanoogans.
Good folks who like good football. Generally ASU fan-like.
What kind of tailgate plans do all you ASU fans have?

Not sure. With an 8:00 kickoff, don't know what works. I am thinking about:
1) Friday late morning do brunch somewhere;
2) Get to tailgate area & set up shortly thereafter;
3) Fix late afternoon dinner on grill;
4) Go to Pavilion about 2 hrs. before kickoff.
Would welcome alternate suggestions from other fans w/ families at the game. Also, need info on where tailgate area is, unless it is same as last year.

This is NOT a defense for any UMass fan not being there, but football is not the sport that sells the most tickets over the course of the fall/winter season.
Our hoops team (8-2) is about to hit the road to play Louisville and Kentucky. The Final Four appearance we made in 96 will never fade away for our fans. Our hockey team (which is ranked) is heading for a tournament in Minneapolis.
Those events are not this weekend, but many of our fans have long ago made reservations to go on one or the other of those trips. There is only so much time and so many dollars.
Our lax team made the Final Four in lacrosse in Philly (55,000 a day in the new Eagles stadium). We beat Maryland in the semis before losing two days later to Virginia so that was another extended road trip. We had a lot of folks there (including me) because it was within driving distance.
I would be pleased if we gather 1,000+ (not including the 350 in our band). It's a 19 hour or so drive and not a cheap flight. I will be there.

The Lacrosse championship was in Philadelphia, as already stated. That's about 4 to 5 hours from UMass. Chattanooga is at least 4 times that distance. If it was in Philly, see how many UMass fans would be there.

I think there are more fans taht want to go and don't have tickets than ticket holders, myself and the nine people who want to go with me included. I saw a set of two on ebay for 128.50 and 14 bids. We should have a good turnout.
