IRVING -- Safety Keith Davis came to the Cowboys as an underdog -- undrafted and unwanted by way of Sam Houston State and Italy.

Now, he is simply a survivor of the realities of life and the NFL. He's been the victim of gunshot wounds twice -- the latest was July when his car was peppered several times while he was driving on Interstate 635.

He has been targeted for a demotion on the field. Davis was benched in favor of rookie Pat Watkins for the first six games of the season before he was given his old job back.

Even now, Davis remains under fire. The recent acquisition of Tony Parrish speaks to the team's persistent concerns at free safety. Davis, however, said he is going to continue to stand strong.
