Appalachian State hosts Arkansas State in a first-place showdown in the Sun Belt. Appalachian State is one of the all-time powerhouses of FCS, with three consecutive national championships. Arkansas State made one national championship game appearance in 1990, losing to Georgia Southern.

Appalachian State wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard.

Ricky Ferguson was one misstep away from breaking the opening kickoff for six and then Taylor Lamb hit Shaedon Meadors for 45 yards on the first play from scrimmage. Lamb then capped a 5-play, 72-yard drive with a 12-yard scoring strike to Malachi Jones to make it 7-0 with 12:45 left in the first period.

The App State/Geo Southern game was palatable because of their proximity to FCS membership and because they were two marquee FCS programs.

If you're gonna do all the games featuring former FCS teams, then you're gonna be a very busy guy....ULL, ULM, La Tech, Ark State, Troy, Marshall, App, Georgia State, etc...

Tae Hayes makes a nice pass breakup on third down and long and App State forces Arkansas State to a three and out.
