LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Cincinnati Reds worked out a deal to obtain troubled outfielder Josh Hamilton, sending cash to the Chicago Cubs after they picked him from Tampa Bay in the first round of baseball's winter meeting draft Thursday.

Hamilton was the third overall pick in the draft, after right fielder Ryan Goleski went from Cleveland's system to the Devil Rays and right-hander Joakin Soria went from San Diego to Kansas City.

By all accounts the guy is an amazing talent. He sounds dedicated to staying clean this time around - I guess time will tell. I am certainly rooting for the guy and am looking forward to seeing what he can do (even if it is with the Reds).

Trust me, the kid can play. I played high school ball against him. According to a Giants scout I know, Hamilton coming out of high school was one of the 3 best players this scout had ever seen

Brooks,

Your boy Josh is off to a great start this spring hitting .538. I hope he keeps it up!

I have never doubted his talent, just his mental capacity and ability to stay off drugs
