The Alcorn State University Braves (4-2, 3-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference) ended their 2015 Homecoming on a sour note with a heartbreaking 35-34 loss to the Grambling State University Tigers (5-2, 5-0) in overtime.*The Braves and the Tigers were evenly matched in the first quarter. After two field goals by the Tigers that put them up 6-0, the Braves got on the scoreboard when JOHN GIBBS JR. scored on a 9-yard quarterback keeper. And HAIDEN MCCRANEY extra point gave the Braves a 7-6 lead.*The Braves were dominant in the second quarter. Riding the momentum of an interception by ERIC FOSTER, the Braves capitalized on the defense's success when Gibbs threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to LAMARVIN ASHLEY. The Tigers would answer back with a 32-yard touchdown pass from Johnathan Williams to Chester Rogers, knotting the game at 14. Later in the period, Aaron Baker rushed for a 3-yard touchdown that gave the Braves the lead. Following a recovered onside kick, DARRYAN RAGSDALE split the Tigers defense for a 10-yard touchdown that sent the Braves into the second half with a 28-14 lead. *The Tigers came out swinging in the third quarter. Williams' 10-yard touchdown pass to Chad Williams decreased the Braves' lead to 7. Later in the quarter, Williams led the Tigers on another successful drive that led to an 8-yard touchdown pass to Chris Bazile to tie the game at 28. *With no score from either team in the fourth quarter, the game went into overtime. The Tigers struck first on a 1-yard Martez Carter rushing touchdown that put them up 35-28. The Braves answered when Gibbs rushed for a 7-yard touchdown. On the extra point attempt that would have tied the game and sent it into double overtime, Jamison Goins for the Tigers blocked the field goal, which resulted in the Tigers' 35-34 win.*The Braves will return to action Oct. 31 when they travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to face the Southern University Jaguars.
