Is the Championship game always a sellout?

I don't think it has ever sold out in Chatty. Came close last year. Maybe in the Marshall days.

I know it came close in the '99 game YSU-GSU. When YSU played @ Marshall against Marshall (92 & 93) there was close to 30k there

I wonder if any Chatty locals come to the game just for something to get out of the house (and an excuse to drink afterwards).

I met several last year - they are awesome folks. There is a group of people in Chattanooga who just love football. You won't have a hard time spotting them, most are wearing orange!

As I understand it, local ticket sales are ahead of last years sales.

Ususally if a SoCon team makes it to the game, it always comes close to a sell-out. And no I'm not knocking any conference or team or a teams fan base. I'm just saying that's all.

I'm sure if the game were played within driving distance of missoula, the game would be a sellout

Chatty has never been a sellout which is very sad.

Avg. attendance for the 9 games in Chatty is 16,202 (~80% of capacity). When Marshall hosted it 5 years in a row, the avg. attendance of 30,070 was greatly helped by the fact Marshall was in the Championship game 4 of those years.

I was at the game last year. I understood that ASU brought about 10k fans, UNI brought about 5k, and there were 4 - 5k of locals who were there just to watch a good game. The local Chamber or City Council does a good job advertising & publicizing the game to the community. So, to answer your question, yes.
