ASU, 81; Davidson 74
Takes a lot of the sting out of the losses against Elon and UNCG last week.
With its first victory at Davidson since 2002, Appalachian (14-5, 6-2 SoCon) handed DC (16-4, 7-1 SoCon) its first loss at home since Feb. 4, 2006 and snapped the nation’s second-longest winning streak at 12 games.

Lehigh heading for big showdown with Bucknell this coming Tuesday in Lewisburg, Pa. Both teams 4-1 in the Patriot. Bison haven't lost at home in over two years. However, the first game ever played at BU's new Sojka Pavillion was won by Lehigh several years ago, so I sense some good karma...;)

Lehigh got skunked at Bucknell last night. Both top shooters went cold--combined 5 for 28:eek: Until we get our big man back in the paint (about two weeks) teams won't be afraid to come out on the perimeter and get in our shooters faces. When Mgreboff is in there, defenses have to collapse more to defense him...Holy Cross on the road next up. Would be a huge upset to win in Worcester..

Once again Temple snatches defeat from the jaws of victory. This time in Fran Dunphy's return to the Palestra against his former Penn team. Temple blew a 19 point second half lead to fall 76-74 against the Quakers. A Temple player fouled a Penn player for absolutely no reason sending him the line as time was about to run out and OT seemed inevetible. My Owls are now 7-11 on the season with a number of heart breaking losses. I can't believe how far we've fallen in the last 4-5 years. I still have faith that Dunphy can get things turned around but the undescipline play has been alarming.

I think we're better off without Chaney in the long. The hooligan thing really hurt our reputation as well as his, especially from a recruiting standpoint. Dunphy, atleast based on history, is an outstanding coach as well as a great leader for young men. Chaney's main problem was he recruited almost exclusively in the inner-city and with that came problems, especially in the last 4-5 years. I can't tell you the number of players we lost for part of or the entire season due to academics or descipline problems. He seemed to lose his touch with mentoring these type of kids at the end of his reign which is the main reason for Temple's slide in to mediocrity. The year before my Fr. year we were 8 points away from the Final 4 and on a string of 18 straight NCAA tourney appearances. Since then it's been a steady spiral downwards and i hope this us bottoming out.

Very true.
There is hope, however, as UD has some significant help coming in next year and a coach that seems able to get a lot of effort out of a team that usually finds itself severely over matched talent-wise.
Things will get better for the Hens!!!
Then again, it would be hard to get worse.

Well Temple continued to commit basketball suicide tonight losing 96-92 to Duquense, a team basically made up of walkons due to the shooting tragedy late in the summer. This time Temple blew a 68-56 lead with 12 minutes left. Temple led the entire game until a Dukes play hit a jumper with 38 seconds left in the game. It's amazing we were actually in control of the game for so long since we committed 28 turnovers. We now stand at 7-12 overall and 1-5 in the A-10 which is good enough for a last place tie with Richmond. Thankfully are women's team is 15-5, 5-0 in the A-10 is a virtual lock for the NCAA tourney.

There was a couple upsets tonight with Dayton beating then 15-4 George Washington and Duquense beating Xavier. The A-10 is looking increasingly likely a 1 bid conference. Umass and GW seem like they have the best chance at an at-large bid depending on how they finish the year and what happens in the conference tourney.

Box Score
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) -- Devon Clarke scored 19 points and Iona ended its distinction as Division I's only winless team with a 69-57 win over Rider on Saturday.
Justin Marshall added 12 points, Mike Harris had 11 and DeShaune Griffin 10 for the Gaels (1-22, 1-12 Metro Atlantic), who had 23 straight losses dating back to the first round of last season's NCAA tournament.
Jason Thompson scored 18 points and Harris Mansell 14 for the Broncs (12-10, 6-6), who have lost four of their last six.
With three starters representing 30.3 points per game sidelined by injury or academics, Iona started five freshmen.
The Gaels last previous victory came March 6, 2006 when they beat St. Peter's 80-61 in the MAAC championship game.
The first half against Rider produced 12 lead changes with Iona on top at the break, 28-26, for only the fourth time this season.
The Broncs led by as many as five after Thompson made two free throws with 12:49 remaining to extend the lead to 43-38.
Clarke converted a three-point play with 8:32 left to provide Iona with a 48-47 lead it never relinquished.
Clarke's two free throws with two minutes left capped a 14-5 run that propelled the Gaels to a 62-52 advantage.
Iona made all 13 of its final attempts at the free throw line.
The Gaels shot 54.5 percent from the field compared to 30.4 percent by Rider.

Will the Hens be the Gaels next victory?

If we can at all play to our potentail and avoid giving games away the last 5 minutes of the game we could string a few victories together here at the end of the season and maybe get into the NIT. We've played better than our record would indicate but 9-12 is 9-12.

I think it depends on the circumstances. I love Notre Dame football and have since i was a little kid, i was born into it, same with Lehigh football. I've also followed Syracuse hoops religously since i was younger and make atleast one trip up to the Carrier Dome a year to catch a game. I did not go to Temple because of their athletic program, lol. However, i went to quite a few basketball games when i was a student and even a few football games. With that said once i got my vehicle down to Philly i made the 50 minute drive up to Lehigh to watch them instead of going to the Linc and watching my Owls get pummeled. I truly hope Temple can get it's athletic program turned around because i would love nothing more to get excited about Owl sports. Still i'll continue to buy ND, Syracuse and Lehigh sweatshirts and give them my undevided support.

We are in the Horizon, which #9 Butler is also in. But you have to look at the good: Attendance is up and we have a coach who; if you add up all his wins in D2 and NAIA; is 6th on the all time win list in Division 1 with around 600 wins I believe.
YSU has never been known as a basketball school; but with the success of the football team, since that is when the basketball recruits come and see the campus; their is a good shot at better athletes coming into YTOWN.
BTW: We were 3-1 vs. the MAC this year!

It's official, Temple is on a roll. :hurray: :hurray: We took out first place Umass today 98-89 at home to extend out winning streak to 4 games. We jumped out to a 14-4 lead and never looked back. We led by as much as 18 points in the second half and Umass never got closer than the final 9 point margin the rest of the way. We've won the last 4 games by 21, 25, 39, and now 9 points. Our next big test comes next Saturday when we head down to D.C to play George Washington. With the win we now stand at a pedestrian 11-12 overall and 5-5 in the league but we really have played better than our overall record would indicate. Umass falls to 17-7 overall and 7-3 in A10 play.

The 2000 trip to the tourney was great, but not many were expecting anything from the Apps other than a first round exit.
However, this team could actually make some noise. DJ was incredible last night and the rest of the boys looked awesome as well. It's a shame that we could get held out over the Elon and Furman losses (providing we don't win the SoCon tourney). :bawling: :bang:
