The Schiano-coached Knights (10-2) are scheduled to play against Kansas State (7-5) in the inaugural Texas Bowl on Dec. 28.

Rutgers beat Louisville (when they were ranked #3) and lost to two teams that are playing in bowl games - one to west virginia by 2 points in triple overtime - and they get the high honor of playing a 7-5 team in the INAUGURAL Texas Bowl? what a joke. I feel bad for those kids. they deserved a better bowl bid.

Agreed! This was a shaft job!! They really deserved better than this scenario.

I agree, I was hoping to see them get into a decent bowl game.

What bowl would you propose?

Rutgers will probably lose this game - there's a theory out there that teams disappointed in their Bowl spot don't play well there.

Its generally beared out in those snubbed from BCS games the last few years (e.g. Cal a year or two ago), but I haven't looked at those that missed out the way Rutgers is missing out...

Um...Texas Bowl was #3 in the Big East bowl rotation...IF Navy is bowl-eligible (and thereby accepts a bid to the Meinike Car Care Bowl)

Behind BCS bowl (Orange) and Gator Bowl...it is the Texas Bowl...blame the conference! Don't go saying that Rutgers got the shaft...

The BIG EAST Bowl Lineup

In addition to the Bowl Championship Series, the BIG EAST Conference also has agreements with a number of other postseason bowl games.

In a first-of-its-kind collaboration among Division I conferences and football bowl partners, the BIG EAST and Big 12 Conferences - along with Notre Dame - have together forged a bowl partnership beginning in 2006 that will assure both BCS Conferences' and Notre Dame's participation in the Toyota Gator Bowl and Brut Sun Bowl over a four-year period. In years when selecting a BIG EAST team, the Toyota Gator Bowl or Brut Sun Bowl will have the first pick after the BIG EAST's representative to the Bowl Championship Series has been determined. The Atlantic Coast Conference will provide the opposition in the Toyota Gator Bowl (CBS) and the Pac-10 Conference will participate in the Brut Sun Bowl (CBS).

The Meineke Car Care Bowl is now in its fifth year with the BIG EAST Conference. The Meineke Car Care Bowl (ESPN), which is played in Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., will pick after the Toyota Gator Bowl or Vitalis Sun Bowl. If Navy is bowl eligible in 2006, the Midshipmen will receive the bid to the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

In November, the BIG EAST entered a four-year agreement to participate in the Texas Bowl and will meet an opponent from the Big 12 Conference beginning in the 2006 season. The Texas Bowl is played at the state-of-the-art Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.

The BIG EAST Conference has also aligned itself with two new bowls – the International Bowl in Toronto, Ontario, and the PapaJohn’s.com Bowl in Birmingham, Ala. The new agreements give the BIG EAST a total of six bowl deals. In the International Bowl, the BIG EAST will meet a team from the Mid-American Conference. In the PapaJohn’s.com Bowl, the BIG EAST will play a team from Conference USA. The International Bowl will be played at the Rogers Centre on Jan. 6 (ESPN2). The PapaJohn’s.com Bowl will be played at Legion Field on Dec. 23 (ESPN2).

well - a matchup between a 7-5 K.State and a 10-2 Rutgers doesn't make much sense. after looking through the bowls the only two that they could have gone to would be the Sun Bowl or the Meineke Bowl (these were the only two "more important" bowl games that involved the Big East)

A Rutgers matchup between Oregon State in the Sun Bowl or Boston College in the Meineke Bowl would be much better matchups to the Scarlet Knights. Navy gets to play Boston College over Rutgers - yet Rutgers beat Navy in the regular season 34-0.

15. Rutgers
22. Boston College
23. Missouri
27. Oregon State
51. Navy
64. Kansas State

if anything Navy and K. State should play each other!

Unfortunately, that's not how it works. BC should have gone the Champs Sports Bowl and Maryland should have been in the Meineke, but the bowl order is who gets to pick first, not which team gets chosen first.

just more reason why the BCS is crap. why the bowls are crap. and why Div I - BCS football will never have a legit "postseason" until they have playoffs.

they're playing Cincinnati (who did beat Rutgers this year...oooooooo) first bowl outside the US since the Bacardi Bowl was held in Cuba - 1937 was the last game....and Auburn and Villanova tied 7-7.

Did anybody actually watch the Rutgers/W Va game? I think Rutgers was shafted in more ways then one. Two *clear* W Va Fumbles that weren't called by the refs. (Must have been Marshall grads... xlolx )

Rutgers did get jobbed a bit in that one. Big East refs are awful.

Watch this clear fumble in the Louisville-UConn game. It's not like UConn had a chance, but it's no excuse for bad officiating.

Yeah. But they shouldn't have lost to Cincy. Had they won that game, the final week would have meant nothing. Rutgers could have lost to WVU and still woul dhave finished tied with Louisville and gone to the BCS. Louisville would then have gone to the Gator. The problem has less to do with Rutgers and more to do with the bowl alliances in the Big East. I'm sure the Rutgers fans would have prefered playing ECU in the PapaJohns.com bowl (instead of USF).

Without looking, I think there was a bowl in Japan... either Tokyo Bowl or Epson Bowl, not that long ago and some I-AA's played. W&M in 1995ish?

I think Montana actually skipped the playoffs one year to play in a bowl in Japan against Army, back in the late 80's. Either that, or I had one heckuva strange dream once. :D

Chiapet had it, Bacardi Bowl (who said sponsorships are a recent thing!). Saw it in the Kalamazoo Gazette last week when I was out there and thought it was a great trivia question.

Maybe my source (the KZOO Gazette) could be wrong. I'm starting to question if there was a Japan Bowl. Can someone investigate?

Talk about RU getting the shaft is a crock. Win games & you goto a BCS bowl, come in 3rd place you goto Texas. Most RU fans are upset because they're not making the trip & they're scrambling to find somewhere it'll be on TV as the NFL Network ain't available in the NYC area.

Correction - Montana played Army in the 1984 Mirage Bowl in Japan.

hmm....it seems like the Japan Bowl was an all-star game? and not a regular bowl game. there was also a game called the Mirage Bowl in Japan - but that was a regular season game, not a "traditional" bowl game.

An all star game does not count. HAS to be a bowl game! Hmmm, maybe those KZOOers have ask.com after all!!!

As said earlier my biggest complaint being a native New Jerseyan is that it's on the NFL network. I'm not one of the 13 people in the country who gets that station!!!

If they're smart they'll work a deal with a local station. I get all the network stations from both Philly & Baltimore & the Ravens/Bengals game last Thursday that was on the NFL network was broadcast by the ABC affiliate in Baltimore.
