Good to see that it garners respect from outside sources.

The AGS Poll deserves to be in the mix. It's one of the most accurate and reliable polls out there.

Never really took a close look at the different ranking sites represented on Massey until now. That said...how in the world does Massey justify including a poll that has Dayton ranked #8?!?! As much as I enjoy seeing my Paladins ranked in the top 5 again...that Ernst Zermelo poll is ridiculous.

Interesting that the Pioneer has moved past the SWAC in the combined ratings.

The AGS poll has been included in the Massey composite since 2004, in other words, since the very first AGS poll was conducted.

It was not earlier this year according to Ursus

One of our voters contacted Massey about the AGS Poll not being included and it has something to do with not having a static link or place they can just go grab it every week. I took care of that today and I got an email back this evening with a link showing AGS is back in the mix.
Thanks wmmii!

Which was because of an issue with a link, not because Massey decided to no longer include it. It's not like it's a new thing, here's the link to the Massey composite for the 2004 preseason...
http://www.masseyratings.com/cf/arch/compare1aa2004-0.htm
That was the very first AGS poll conducted and it was included in the composite. Not poo-pooing them getting the link issue resolved, but some of these people are acting like this is a new thing, and even the thread title is misleading since the AGS poll has always been included, there were just some technical difficulties that had to get worked out to make it easier on him to download it.

Haha yah I like to look at them for fun. I'm not a statistician so I really have no idea why it happens, but I can only assume it has something to do with how the computer is reading stats. It all equals out in the end anyways.

I'm the guy that does the Zermelo list. Its weakness is undefeated teams having no one to pull them down. After Dayton got their first loss, the list changed dramatically:

Probably the ONLY thing wrong with the AGS poll on a consistent basis is the fact that a number of voters omit or grossly under-rank the top Ivies out of principal because they don't participate in the playoffs. Harvard and Dartmouth were in the neighborhood of the top five in some polls (Sagarin & Massey I think) but missing from some posters' top 25 altogether.

The case could be made Dartmouth had the best FCS defense last year.
It's hard to say because if Dartmouth's offense is one of those long sustained drive kind of deals that eats up the clock, giving up points/yardage on defense needs to be considered with the amount of remaining clock time left. You'd have to index the stats to find the best defense in FCS.
That's what I believe is a fair way to make individual and team unit awards at the end of season NCAA banquet... by indexing the stats.

I don't rank them. I watch Ivy games. They are not that good. We'd get to see that if they'd ever stop hiding behind the NEC, Patriot and old white guys complaining about missing class time

Some of the Ivy League teams do step out and play different schools. The problem is Harvard has not and they've dominated the league for the most part. That still should not take away from wins over Cal Poly, Villanova, Maine and Army recently.
I hold the Ivy League in high regard. I think they recruit at level that's higher than most FCS programs. They do have some depth issues but 1-35, talent wise, is among the very best in FCS.
I'd love to see the league in the playoffs. I think most years they'd have a team that would advance. They'd be a huge headache to the CAA....

The raw pure points method has North Dakota State with the #2 defense behind Dartmouth: http://media.wix.com/ugd/84c233_23aaa1ea27cf4c098b39296d2ba9e58a.pdf
If North Dakota State's defense spent more clock time on the field (average time per game) than Dartmouth, then conceivably North Dakota State had the best defense.
Another way of looking at it, if Archie Griffin was so great at Ohio State by winning the Heisman twice, how come he petered out with the Cincinnati Bengals afterwards? Is is possible the Big Ten had two stacked teams (Michigan and Ohio State) and ANYONE could run behind Ohio State's offensive line (a case for indexing stats)?

So what your saying is the Ivy is full of ****ty offenses, which boost Dartmouth's defense?

Agree I'd love to see them stop hiding (but they won't).
But to say the Ivy is not a good brand of football at the FCS level is just wrong. Unless you think that all the Ivy alum in the NFL are either fake or fudged their resumes and really went to Northern Iowa or North Dakota State...

Individual talent is not indicative of league strength relative to another. Look at the number of SWAC or MEAC guys on NFL rosters. Or the number of guys from just garbage FCS or FBS programs.

Jared Allen's NFL career proves that Idaho State has actually won the FCS championship the last decade straight. Duh.

ISU did go 16-7 his last two years there. That's the equivalent of winning championships for real football programs. xcoffeex

As of week 1 of the 15-16 NFL season
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000531745/article/college-programs-with-the-most-alums-on-nfl-week-1-rosters
» A total of 251 colleges were represented on Kickoff Weekend rosters.
» If you go by conference, the SEC has the most NFL players with 309. The ACC is next with 239 players, followed by the Big Ten and Pac-12 (221 apiece), Big 12 (134) and AAC (96). This is based on a college's current conference affiliation. For example, all players who went to Utah are classified as Pac-12 and all players who went to Maryland and Rutgers are classified as Big Ten (etc). It should come as no surprise to anybody who follows college football and how it relates to the NFL draft that the SEC has the most players.
» When breaking down the rosters by draft round, the first round has 261 players, second round with 204, third round with 201, fourth round with 169, fifth round with 139, sixth round with 124 and seventh round with 111. There are 486 players who went undrafted currently in the NFL. The large number of undrafted players currently on NFL rosters underscores how important that period immediately following the conclusion of the draft is for teams.
» The non-Power 5 conference school (plus Notre Dame) with the most players currently in the NFL? This one might surprise you. It's not Boise State, Fresno State, Central Florida, or any of the powerhouses of the MAC. It's Connecticut. UConn had 17 players players on 53-man Week 1 NFL rosters. That's impressive stuff for a program that hasn't won more than five games in a season since 2010 -- including a dismal 2-10 campaign in 2014. Coming out of that two-win season, UConn produced a first-round draft pick in 2015, cornerback Byron Jones (http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/byron-jones?id=2552568). In the past three drafts, UConn had nine players drafted. That's more than high-profile traditional powers such as Texas (5), Auburn (7), Michigan (7), Tennessee (7) and Miami (8).
» A school that hasn't fielded a football team since 1974 has a player currently playing in the NFL. Wisconsin-Milwaukee, which shut down its football program in 1975, boasts Kansas City Chiefs (http://www.nfl.com/teams/kansascitychiefs/profile?team=KC) tight end Demetrius Harris (http://www.nfl.com/player/demetriusharris/2541187/profile). Harris played basketball and club football at UW-Milwaukee.
