I was shocked myself. Looking back at my picks last week I nailed the UCA game, the Sam game, and was closest to the McNeese game(tie). MIght have something to do with my Wedge analysis of these teams giving me a little more thought to them. Or I might just be getting lucky and everyone else isn't giving a crap about their picks this year. xdrunkyx

Thoughts for this weeks' games without prediction scores:

Lamar at SLU- Tough game. I think Lamar will sneak by this one even with SLU's defense.
NWST at UIW. NWST offers very little on offense and nothing on defense. UIW easily wins.
College of Faith at HBU. Bloodbath again. HBU by multiple TDs.
McNeese at Nicholls. Easy game for the Cowboys.
SFA at Sam Houston. Sam's not playing well but SFA is struggling more. Sam by a couple.
ACU at UCA. The mirror game. UCA on track and ready to avenge last year at home. UCA by the slightest.

Hate to say this, but I think you guys are giving Sam too much credit for that HBU win. SFA is always pumped for the BOTPW, and this year that is all they can hope for to make it a worthwhile season. I think Sam loses this game outright.

I thought Matt Cummins with 9 Kick-offs averaging 63 per should have taken the special teams honor. Kid had to have a tired leg but he typically landed it at the goal line. Talk about a strong freshman!

"Don't forget to pick the WINNER AND THE POINT SPREAD. Example: SAM by 45 or SAM +45."

Question about scoring: Do you eliminate those who pick the wrong winner before looking at who was closest to actual point spread, or is the point awarded soley on the basis of who is closest to actual point difference? Hypothetical: I pick ACU by 1. UCA wins by 1. Another contestant picks UCA by 3. Who gets the contest point?

First I look at who picked the correct team that won. Then I look who got closest to the point spread up or down. So if ACU beats UCA by 14 on Saturday and you pick UCA to win I don't bother with your pick. If you correctly pick ACU then I look at your point spread. If you are the closest you get a point. If more than one person picks the same as you then everyone who picked the same as you gets a point. In your scenario the person who correctly picked UCA gets the point because they picked the correct team.

Offense:
Conference only UCA is averaging 5 yards a carry and 10 yards a pass.
Conference only ACU is averaging 5 yards a carry and 8 yards a pass.

Defense:

Offense run game:

Uh, UCA has only played one conference game, a blow out vs Northwestern State. Kind of hard to establish "edges" on the basis of one game.

Yup, we have sucked at run defense this year. UCA has two good backs. You will probably have success on the ground against us.

Through 3 games UCA sucks at pass defense (last in the conference). ACU QB Parker McKenzie is first in the conference in passing (yards per game). His top two targets are very good at picking up yards after catches. We will probably have our way with you through the air.

Here is how I see the game: Our air attack vs your running attack. Which team can take advantage of the weakness in the other's offense enough to open up the other dimension---can you force us to defend the run enough to open up the passing game and can we pass effectively enough to open up our ground game?

Oh, and can Ken Collums find ways to use our 3 QB system to keep your D off balance and confused, like last year? Or will you be ready for whatever we throw at you?

NWST used 4 QBs until our game with them. We had to plan for all 4. Turned out alright.

Actually Jared Johnson from SHSU is the conference passing leader and UCA's backup QB Hildebrand is only 20 or so yards per game behind your Qb. Hildebrand's throws are scarily accurate (WRs dropped 3 TD passes against NWST, 2 wide open and 1 dead on just unexpected) and coach may have found next year's starter once Reed leaves.

You've played 2 conference games against 0-4, 1-3 teams. We've played one against an 0-4 team. Yes we can compare stats. It's rare it can be done but our competition was equal. I mean if we look ahead to our next game I see us playing HBU and scoring 70 on them and only allowing maybe 14 tops with our backups in. You're going to Lamar. Looking at Lamar and how well they have played how do you think that will play out? If we can pull out a win this weekend against the Wildcats by running the ball and decently defending the pass then after the HBU game we will be 3-0. The cats head to Lamar and will most likely be 2-2. Just my opinion since I don't play on the field. xlolx

Not sure what passing stats you are looking at, but here's where mine came from....http://southland.org/stats.aspx?path=football&year=2015 update: I figured it out. you are looking at conference only stats, I am looking at overall stats.

McKenzie averages 210 yards per game, Johnson 206. Reed averages 164. Hildebrand isn't listed on the SLC site, I guess since he does not the the minimum number of attempts for inclusion. The UCA site shows him with 116 yards per game for 2 games.

We will have to agree to disagree on the meaning of one game stats. I'll just point out that UCA seems to match up well against NWST. You slobberknocked them last year, and again this year. ACU then whupped UCA and then turned around and let NWST embarrass us on our home field. Worst game we played all year.

2-2 for us is entirely possible. We never know which ACU team will show up. We are hoping we bring our A game to Conway. If so, y'all will be in for a tussle. We are also hoping you bring the Samford UCA team to play. Or the one that came to Dallas last year.

Well if it happens again it will be with a new cast of ACU characters. Stephens and Richardson were seniors. Ausborne was an academic casualty. Epps is a senior but is playing more offense than defense. The ACU QB from last year is still on the team but is playing WR this year.

Ken has to find it weird coming back to Conway as "the enemy" after spending 12 years of his life as a coach and player at UCA.

One of the things our coaches noticed watching film last year was that the Bears were not doing a good job of ball control. Most of those turnovers were forced errors. We tried the same approach last week against SFA....strip the ball rather than complete the tackle...without success. SFA simply shrugged off the tackler, held onto the ball and kept on going. It almost cost us the game. Y'all have probably practiced more ball control this year, after what we were able to do last year.

Outcoached. Outplayed. Outclassed.

Worst beatdown in recent memory. UCA got payback from last years game in spades. Congratulations. Sorry we didn't provide much competition for your first or second team.

Thats what makes me think it was just a bad game by the Wildcats. Kinda like we had with Samford. Nothing was clicking. Offense for you guys couldnt get started. Defense was just moved enough to get 5 yards a carry. I mean we carried the balk 56/71 plays. Only 15 passes. Campbell wasnt trying to run up the score. watching the second team line up in the first half with the third string qb was confusing because we knew the kid wasnt going to throw it. Some of your receivers dropped some dead on passes for big gains that will bite us against Sam and McNeese.

Another road game. Sigh. :(
