Went to the MS-Mankato (Mankato State to me :)) game yesterday in Crookston. AGS member (Laker) and a couple of his friends picked me up in Fertile and we all attended the game against UM-Crookston.
Mankato has a very good team with depth and talent. Crookston was overmatched and should be in the same NAIA conference as Mayville State, Valley City State and Jamestown. They run a version of the spread, which a lot of college teams do now, but they run it very well.
The #1 D2 team I saw yesterday would have beaten the NDSU opponent last weekend (UND). Actually the Mavs had a former UND WR on their team, Kenny Galloway.
Thanks for stopping by Laker, had a great time.

Thanks for riding along! Mav running game spoke for itself. Mav defense spoke for itself. Mav passing game had a frog in it's throat. Three running backs over the century mark in rushing.
Long drive up and back but I'm glad that I went. Got to see several people up there from back in basketball camp days.

So Fertile is a real place? I figured you referring to good dirt in Minnesota.

There was a newspaper headline years ago- "Fertile woman dies in Climax". Climax is a town 32 miles west of Fertile.

xlolx What a way to go!
There's a Climax in NC as well, near Greensboro where I lived. We used to get some mileage out of that when I was in High School.

Named by the residents who moved from Fertile, Iowa. It's a good thing to learn something new every day!

I stopped on my way back from a MSU-Mankato game in Maryville, MO against Northwest. On my way back I stopped at the Junction Cafe in Bedford, IA after seeing a sign for their strawberry shortcake. The place was packed after the game. As a geography teacher I asked the locals about how this river got its name. None of them knew. No one really knows.
