Sorry I'm late with it this week. I have been traveling a lot. I went ahead and made some changes that I will quickly take away if someone steps up this week but thought I would go ahead and do it to make conversation. If I had to pick front runners based on early play it is looking like Cooper Kupp, De'Angelo Henderson, and Darius Victor are standing out offensively. On defense,

I went ahead and made some changes

FCS FROSH POY WATCH LIST UPDATE- SEPT 25
LB Isaiah Buehler, Mercer- 9 TKL, 4.5 TFL, 2.5 SACKS in 3 games.

Buehler is a DE in a 3-4 Defense. I know he's listed as a LB on Mercer's roster, but his hand has been on the ground every play this year. Glad to see he's been added to your list. Exceptional ball get-off quickness, excellent technique/pass-rush moves, and he has a great motor. A bit undersized as a DE, but that worked out pretty well for former Clemson star, now Atlanta Falcon, DE, Vic Beasley. They are the same size, but I don't know that Isaiah Buehler runs a 4.53. He also has 3 more years to bulk up.

WR Jamaal Jones, Montana, Sr. - 24 catches, 373 yards, 15.5 avg, 2 TDs, 124.3 yds/gm in 3 games.

One more big game and I'll add him. WRs need a lot of TDs. If he had 4 or 5 TDs right now he would have already made the list.

Yeah but I always put what the schools lists. He is definitely more of a LB if he were to play in the NFL.

...might wanna drop Bedell...

Impressed with the size and run blocking that SBU's line seems capable of, not at all impressed with any of their backs.

Not really advocating he be added to this list, nor saying he is likely to end up POY but Zach Lujan is have a good year this year and we're pretty happy with him so far.

61 of 103 for 1002 YDs, 8 TDs, 2 INTs...that works.

Jake Weineke added 7 catches for 163 of those yards and two TDs

I was talking about numbers from last week but yeah he needs TDs to get on the Payton list. WRs need gaudy TDs as much as yards.

Holmes is clearly a Buchanan Award candidate caliber player. He is having a great season.

I know all about him. :) He needs to produce some big games to get added. Unfortunately these awards are stat driven so he needs a lot of TFLs and some sacks or PBUs and forced or recovered fumbles would help him greatly.

As fun as it's been to watch Weineke in person, it blows me away that Cupp's stats are that much more impressive...what 10 more catch's, 200ish more yds and 4 more TD's through 3 games? Un-real.

Wieneke would have those numbers too if we relied on him that much and if we had a pass happy offense similar to EWU.

Perhaps, but keep in mind that Eastern has more rushing attempts and yards than SDSU has so far and our #2 receiver Kendrick Bourne has almost as many yards and TD's as Weineke so it's not all about passing and it's not all about Kupp.

What SDSU needs to do for Wieneke'sstats is forget how to play defense and get into 50+ to 45+ shoot outs every week throwing the ball only to him.😀

Honest question kalm, since I'm on a phone and will take too long for my adhd to find it:

EWU has more plays? What's the total play and r:p look like for both? I have a gut feeling but want to see numbers to see if it's right

SShhhhh, Clenzy. Quiet! :D

SDSU

116 rushing
106 passing

EWU:

120 rushing
173 passing

FWIW (against Sac) we only ran 73 plays last night and held the Hornets to 0, 2, 5, 1, and 1 yards on their first five possessions of the 2nd half and a total of just 69 yards.

EWU...defensive juggernaut!!!;)

I also forgot to add in the last post that RB Jabari Wilson has 5 touchdowns of his own so between Bourne and Wilson it's not as if Kupp is bogarting all of them.

Will Rattelle still under the radar I see.

Looks like Will Rattle had a good game against UC Davis.

Here is his stat line courtesy of the Fargo Forum.
UND linebacker Will Ratelle keyed the defensive effort, making a career-high 15 tackles, including 12 solo stops. He had one sack and four tackles for loss.

Go Bison!

I believe SDSU has been sacked 3 times and EWU 6.

In college those count as rush attempts.

That moves play totals to
SDSU 113 runs to 109 pass
EWU 114 runs to 179 pass

So, I guess you could still say EWU is more run heavy....kinda

The box score now says 5.5 TFLs and 4 sacks. Cookus was tackled right around the line of scrimmage at least a few times, so I'm not surprised there's some discrepancy between sources.
