I know in 2001, #1 Montana, #2 GSU, and #3 Furman all made it, but I don't remember if McNeese or UNI was the 4 seed (UNI made the semis).

Well I got curious and had to go look.

Based on 1986 - 2006 with 16 teams and no first round byes factoring in; the only time all four top seeds advanced to the semifinals was 1996.

#1 Montana, #2 Marshall, #3 Northern Iowa, #4 Troy St.

So today was quite an accomplishment for Montana, UMass, App, and YSU. :beerchug: :hurray: :beerchug:

Yes it will. In 1996, Montana scored 70 unanswered points (how often can a team say that?) to beat Troy St. 70-7.

McNeese wasn't a seed either that year. The Cowboys finished the 2001 regular season 8 -3.

Troy State was a southern team totally out of their element that year and Montana took advantage of them.

Actually, if I recall correctly, UNI gave the Herd a better game in the semi's than Montana gave them in the chipper . UNI, Marshall and Montana might have all had their best teams ever that year. I didn't think anyone could handle the Griz that year and the Herd made us look foolish.

That was a tremendous final 4.
