According to a couple of websites Gardenhire will be the next manager of the Tigers... Should be interesting if this holds true.

That's been the rumor for a bit. He has had some success with the Twins, so it may not be a bad move. Not sure what his style is, but Brad Ausmus seems to lack the ability to motivate the team. We'll see.

Gardy is a player's manager. He doesn't get too high, he doesn't get too low. If you need a fire lit under your backside that may not be the manager that you want. He did a good job with limited personnel with the Twins. I think it was a case of that both he and the Twins needed a change of pace. I am not surprised at all that he would get another managerial job.

I wanted him to get another managerial job, but would have preferred it to be not within the division.

Who was it that was rumored as a spot for him earlier this year- Miami?
I think that the Nationals will be changing skippers.

Still might be a good fit. Gardenhire does have playoff experience, albeit no World Series rings. I think that Ausmus may have got thrown into a position he wasn't ready for. Smart guy and all, but his only Managerial experience, at any level, was the Israeli national team prior to taking over the Tigers. Kind of a tough position with a team that wants to win now. Or then, as the case is currently.

Just for kicks I checked the comment section in the Detroit News about this. People already hate the hire. Those folks are collectively the most unhappy, pessimistic group I've run across. They hated Jim Leyland, the hated Dave Dombrowski, they hate Brad Ausmus and Al Avila. They fault players when they get hurt. Amazing. But like a car wreck, I can't seem to look away.
I seriously think that the only way to satisfy some of them would be to dig Sparky Anderson up and prop him up in the dugout. xsmhx

I liked Gardy but one of the problems with him was he was slow to make necessary changes. Also if a good player got on his bad side it got ugly. Lastly his ability to identify a problem within his own staff I think really hamstrung him (pitching coach). He needed or the Twins needed to make a change in that position but left Rick Anderson in that position way to long.

When you say slow to make changes, do you mean in game changes as well?

When you say slow to make changes, do you mean in game changes as well? I was leaning more to the coaching issues. I do think that his managing of players themselves was an issue. His baseball knowledge is top notch but his people skills well I think he struggled there. Given he was managing in Minnesota and we didn't have a lineup of prima donna's and yet he still had issues dealing with the different personalities. In his defense our front office when Terry Ryan retired really screwed Gardy over. The damage done by Smith his replacement will take years for Ryan to clean up.
