I wouldn't go that far. While their record hasn't shown it, they've been pretty competitive. They're usually a very tough out in the Big Sky.

i kind of understand what you're saying, but again .. they only succeeded in beating UC davis and webes state last year.

This is dead on. They are always tough and give the top teams everything they have. They ain't ****ty.

It seems like we are there at the end, but something stupid happens and we end up losing. At the end of this game, I thought it was going to be that again, where we get the INT, get flagged for celebrating, then they overturn it, march off the penalty and Wazzu then gets the tying score. I was so relieved when they upheld the INT.

Still, this should be the most surprising of the FCS upsets so far.

There weren't many people that didn't expect Liberty to beat one of the 5 worst FBS programs. However, congrats on the "FBS" win.

EKU over Kentucky 13-7 right now who has 2 SEC wins. That would be a huge win for the Colonels

Are the small timers over on Coastal Fans starting to see that maybe there isn't as much gap between top tier FCS teams and FBS teams as they thought?

I pretty much got laughed off that board a couple years ago when I suggested that Coastal would likely beat the directional Michigans and a few other similar FBS programs.

And now y'all are moving up, so you'll get to see it for yourself.

I have a question in relation to this thread. In looking at Portland State's next opponent, FBS North Texas, they are currently winless on the season, including a loss to SMU who James Madison beat. Also, their scores indicate that they really have not been competitive so far this season. Now, obviously PSU is going to have to play better than today against North Dakota, but my question is when was the last time an FCS team got two wins over the FBS in the same season? Has it ever been done? I was just wondering because North Texas does not look as good as Washington State, nor do they look better than quite a few Big Sky teams.

I doubt this was the only time, but in 2007 NDSU beat Central Michigan (MAC champions that year) 44-14 and B1G Minnesota 27-21.

(The same year that I'm convinced they would have given App State a run for their money if allowed to compete, but alas... The world will never know for sure.)

Before NDSU was playoff eligible during the DII to DI transition (in 2007), NDSU beat a G5 conference champion Central Michigan (44-14) and a P5 team Minnesota 27-21 in the same season. 10-1 (lost to SDSU 29-24)

The year before in 2006, DII to DI transitional NDSU almost pulled it off as well, we beat G5 Ball State 29-24 and lost to P5 Minnesota 10-9, the one point loss to Minnesota was the only mark on an otherwise perfect season. 10-1

Those two L's should probably be on the NDSU list of most frustrating losses.

PSU 439 total yards in the first half. Game is not over yet, but I can't see the defense having a total meltdown.

Looks like Lehigh's record for FCS over FBS victory margin is about to fall. This is crazy!

North Texas will be in the record book involving 2 of the 4 most lopsided FBS losses to a FCS team.

I am pretty sure FCS/IAA started in 1978

1981 was the last season that the Ivy League was classified as I-A (what is now known as FBS).

The Division I split (I-A/I-AA) was effective with the 1978 season.

Actually, it's 5 different teams, but who's counting? xlolx
The problem is that 3 of those teams won it all before 1985. For several years after that...long stretches of years, the Big Sky was a one bid league. Hell, it was a running joke on here for years (hence the Big Fluffy moniker).

There are some really sucky teams in the SBC, just like there are in CUSA, MWC, American, and the MAC. There are also some really sucky teams in the P5 as well. There are some really really sucky teams in all the FCS conferences. Sorry, the G5 isn't going anywhere. If anything, the FCS is being pushed even further away from FBS.

Funny you mention Idaho. They have a pretty decent offense. I'm sure they'd be a player in the Big Sky this year!
