I would love to see them do this in football. I am guessing after 8 years the Big 10 would be up 7-1 or 8-0.

We'd get killed in football, which is why we like the basketball challenge:hurray:

Does anyone know how they do the pairings and/or how the ACC 12th team that sits out is chosen?

Pairings are done based on performance from previous years. Supposedly the Big Ten and ACC make the pairings based on preseason expectations.
As for the 12th team, not sure. Probably some kind of rotation, excluding UNC and Duke ofcourse. I don't think NC State has ever been excluded either.
Wake is the team left out this year. It seems the ACC might hand pick one of the worst teams to sit out.

They should just rotate through the Florida teams. :smiley_wi

I wish more conferences would do this. I know the Big East and SEC are starting a challenge next season, but I would love to see a PAC-10/Big 12 challenge as well. It's a good way to ensure some watchable early season matchups.

Agreed. And it's a great way to get the teams geared up for the hostile conference game atmospheres. Maryland hadn't played in a particularly hostile environment yet this year until playing at Illinois last night, so it's good for them to get that kind of game under their belts before heading into the biggie games with Duke/UNC/UVA, etc.

I'd LOVE to see a MVC/Pac-10 Challenge!
Wichita State @ UCLA
Washington @ Creighton
SIU @ Arizona
Missouri State @ Oregon
UNI @ Arizona State
Washington State @ Bradley
Drake @ Stanford
California @ Indiana State
Illinois State @ USC
Oregon State @ Evansville
That would be 5-5 and it really could sway. It would definitely be closer than the Big 10/ACC in my opinion.

so excited for the Carolina/OSU game tonight. I think the Tar Heels will pull the "upset" (if you can really call it that.)

Between the two of them, the verdict for either team is still TBD, IMO. OSU has not played a single quality team yet. UNC has only played Gonzaga, who they lost to (and Tennessee, who is always up and down). So I'm still skeptical on both teams, regardless of their recruiting class ranks.

i think it would be cool if we did something like this on the FCS level in football. how bout the A-10/Gateway challenge, or the SoCon/Big sky challenge.

True! Good game, both teams look stout and will only get better. UNC played much better than they did against The Zags. The only team I've seen play with more intensity is Marquette.

they're still young and its still early in the season. their second half defense was much better than their first half defense.

I was very frustrated by UVA's loss. Probably one of the ugliest game-winning shots I've ever seen. Considering how poorly everyone besides Sean Singletary played, only losing by two could be seen as a good thing though. You guys should watch out for UVA...we'll be making a splash in the ACC.

UVA was the one ACC school I was rooting against. :hurray: :hurray: Loathe, loathe, loathe.
I think they'll finish top 5 in the ACC though... :o

I think any Pac-10 school other than Washington, Arizona, UCLA, and Oregon would be a patsy. ;)
But, yeah, I really don't know much about the Pac-10 other than the ranked schools. I mean, is Washington State good at anything? They seem like one of the worst BSC schools in sports...
