I wanted to come on here and start a thread on this game before the game, but didn't have time. Two big I-AA football schools meeting on the hardwood...

Anyway, EKU dominated the first half and held off a furious rally late from a JMU team that wouldn't quit. I could only listen on the radio, but it sounded like a loud, enthusiastic crowd and a great overall atmosphere. EKU Coach Jeff Neubauer and play-by-play man Greg Stotelmyer confirmed that on the post-game show.

Great to see a very young EKU team get back to back road wins this early in the season. They really seem to be buying into Jeff Neubauer's system. The Colonels will roll into Bowling Green for Saturday's showdown with the Hilltoppers who look to be handling Mike Davis and UAB tonight last time I checked. I'll be in BG for the game.

I'd love to hear some JMU fan's impressions of the game...both your team and ours. It was a pretty exciting game to listen to.

UMass and Jax St met on the hardwood as well. UMass blew them out 100-69

JMU basketball has been in an 8 year funk, and we are still pretty bad. We have a 3rd year coach who is trying to turn things around, but he has had NO success thus far.

EKU is clearly a very strong program who has reloaded after losing a lot of big time players last year.

Our crowd was only 3k, which is pathetic since we averaged well over 6000 for most of our D1 days. Its dark times in H-Burg, believe me......

I think I feel the pain of a JMU fan sometimes when it comes to basketball. Hopefully you all can get it going in the next few years.

We'll take revenge on EKU for you later this season.

oh - its soooo sad. it really is like the Dark Ages there for basketball. its amazing how you can draw 17,000 people for football - and barely 3,000 for basketball. and the only people that do any cheering are the student duke section on the floor. i was always in the floor seats because no one ever went - it was never hard to find a seat. :-\ i definitely plan on going when they play VCU and W&M because they're close to home for me now. Go Dukes!

3,000 is a pretty decent crowd at EKU. We averaged about 3,200 during our NCAA tournament season in 2005. This year in three home games the best crowd is only 2,600...but in our defense two out of those three were against sub D1 competition. I wish we would fill McBrayer Arena more often because it's one of the loudest arenas in the country when it's full. It has the largest all-wood roof anywhere in the world and sound bounces around like crazy. Terrible arena for concerts...fun for basketball.

I think most Colonel fans are surprised to see us at 5-1. Coach Neubauer called last night our best win yet this season, but that would be quickly trumped IF the Colonels were able to go into Bowling Green and shock the Hilltoppers this weekend.

You guys have no idea what dark days are. The year before I arrived at EKU as a student we snapped a 21 game OVC losing streak. Our attendance at that time was measured in only hundreds, and the year before Travis Ford took over we lost to BEREA COLLEGE (NAIA D2) making us not even the best team in Madison County, Kentucky. My senior year was the NCAA tournament year where we won a program-best 22 games including a big win on the road at Dayton.

As for UMass...I did notice that Travis was still playing at some OVC teams. I've heard a rumor that he offered to bring the Minutemen to Richmond in a 2 for 1 but we declined. His relationship with EKU President Joanne Glasser got pretty sour when he left. I think it's a shame because I like them both. Glasser has been a truly brilliant leader for the University, and it's impossible not to respect what Travis Ford accomplished here (even for me...who grew up hating all UK basketball players...lol).

well...if the season progresses like the last however many....with us losing game after game after game...the attendance will drop like snow in montana. toward the end of the season barely anyone goes to the games.

Go Dukes.
