That brain surgeon Mike Tice of the Vikings just got fined $100K for scalping his Super Bowl tickets!
Why don't we start a new thread on this: name some of the stupidest things ever done by sports figures! And this year has already witnessed plenty!!

I nominate Eugene "She didn't look like a cop" Robinson for his extra-curricular activities on Super Bowl Eve.
That's what happens when a Colgate grad starts making money and he doesn't know what to do with it. :D Why couldn't he just buy a nice Audi like colgate13?

Easily the dumbest thing ever done by a sports figure was Lonnie Smith's baserunning blunder in game 7 of the '91 World Series.

Dallas Cowboys Leon Lett celebrating his "touchdown" a little too early in the Super Bowl vs the Giants, granted it didn't really change the course of the game. Otherwise, he was a great player.

How about the regular punch-outs that occur with major league baseball players breaking their hands, fingers, wrists, etc. Rogers just being the latest of a line long.

Don't forget the Thanksgiving Game against the Dolphins in the snow. He tried to recover a BLOCKED FG in the endzone, blundered it and the Dolphins recovered to score the GW TD. What a retard.

I have another one....
In the 1st round of this year's Men's D-I Basketball Tournament, I was at the UTEP-Utah game in Tucson. Late in the 2nd half, Utah was up by something like 3 or 4, but the Miners had momentum. A Utah player brought the ball up-court and crossed the mid-court line. He tried to pass back to his teamate, but missed. The ball bounced back over the mid-court line, seemingly destined to go out of bounds. At this point, the whole arena was going nuts, because it was mostly UTEP fans.
Then, inexplicably, a UTEP player CHASES AFTER THE BALL! He tries to save it from going out of bounds, but instead, makes contact with it while he's out of bounds himself! Possession Utah!!! The Utes never looked back after that!
What an idiot! If the ball was touched by any Utah player, it's UTEP's posession. If it went of of bounds, untouched, it was UTEP's ball because Utah had last touch!

Robin Ventura charging the mound, and then Nolan Ryan getting him in a headlock and punching him out.
Mark McGwire's steroid testamony.

Went to a banquet where Tommy Lasorda spoke the other night. He said he had dumb players. Steve Sax would tell him he could hit 80% of the time to Center, 20% to Right and 20% to left. Ken Landreaux once bunted with bases loaded and 2 outs, and popped out, Lasorda yelled at Landreaux and asked him what he was doing. Landreaux said he was trying to surpise the other team. On another occasion Mickey Hatcher was playing 3rd base, Joe Ferguson was catching. There were two outs and a runner on third. If the ball is hit to third, most people throw to first, and the catcher backs up the firstbaseman. So the ball was hit to third and Hatcher throws home. Lasorda expects Ferguson to be on his way to back up first, but he looks at homeplate and Ferguson is waiting for the throw from Hatcher, and tags out the runner. Lasorda asks Ferguson what he was doing covering home. Ferguson told him that if you play with dumb players, you have to play like dumb players. Anyway, I thought it was funny at the banquet, hope I didn't butcher it too much.

How about former Cincinatti Bengals' running back Stanley Wilson getting arrested for cocaine, or some kind of drug charges the night before the Super Bowl against San Francisco in 1989?

Not as bad, but huge -- reminded me of UMich's Fab Five's Chris Weber trying to take a timeout during the NCAA Finals vs UNC. Game over.
I've got one that really no one outside the Big Sky will remember. In 2000 Sac State was beating the Griz 20-0 at the half during UM's homecoming and looked like they would win. The Griz come back and Sac QB Ricky Ray is literally two feet from running for a first down and ending the game but he literally just chucks the ball as he's falling to the ground like his arm goes through some spasm and Damon Parker raced 40 yards to give the Griz the winning score. Ray said he was trying to pitch the ball for more yards.
Or you could always think back to Furman's "Go for two!!" ;)
