Jerel Harrison, a leading wide receiver for University of Delaware football team, has been charged with first-degree assault after a fight in the locker room Thursday evening, UD officials said Friday.
According to UD police, Harrison struck a teammate with a helmet. The player, whom UD has not identified, was taken to Christiana Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Harrison, a Richmond, Virginia, native, is arguably the Blue Hens’ best returning wideout. Last season, he caught 31 passes for 488 yards and four touchdowns.
He was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Facility on $25,000 cash bail. He was also issued a no contact order with the victim and the university, and a trespass warning for the campus, according to UD.

He was UD's #1 receiver - a position that already didn't return much experience. Harrison had a few problems last season so the general vibe is people are not expecting him back.

Well after a few nights with Bubba in lock up, he really will be a wide receiver.

Reminds me of Bernard Scott. Kid was amazing fast. Went onto the NFL but got kicked off our team because he punched a coach. xbangx
College career[edit (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bernard_Scott&action=edit§ion=2&editintro=Template:BLP_editintro)]He went on to attend Central Arkansas University (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Arkansas_University), where he earned Gulf South Conference (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_South_Conference) Freshman of the Year honors in 2004, but was eventually dismissed from the football team for hitting a coach, along with a few other issues.[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Scott#cite_note-troubled-1) Scott transferred to Blinn College (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blinn_College), where he was a first team NJCAA (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Junior_College_Athletic_Association) All-America after leading the Buccaneers to a 12-0 season and the NJCAA national championship. Scott averaged 154.4 rushing yards per game, and he finished his only junior college season with a junior college-best 1,892 yards and 27 touchdowns. He was also first team all Southwestern Junior College Football Conference.
Rated a three-star recruit by Rivals.com (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivals.com), Scott drew some interest by Arkansas (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Arkansas) and Fresno State (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fresno_State_University),[2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Scott#cite_note-2) but eventually enrolled at Abilene Christian University (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abilene_Christian_University) in 2007. He had finished runner-up in the voting for the 2007 Harlon Hill Trophy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harlon_Hill_Trophy) to Danny Woodhead (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Woodhead). In that year, Scott broke the league's single-season rushing record with 2,165 yards and set a pair of NCAA Division II single-season records with 39 total touchdowns and 234 points scored.[3] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Scott#cite_note-Richards-3) In 2008, Scott won the Harlon Hill Trophy in a landslide, getting the third-highest vote total in the 23-year history of the trophy.

If he played for ISU Redbirds he'd get a tap on the wrist and after practice he'd go toke up with Marshaun xlolx

UD is circling the wagons right now.
In addition to this particular starting WR, who was an Honor student, getting kicked off the team for assaulting a teammate, we had a starting defensive back get removed from the team for getting into a fight (he is now facing felony charges), and a starting LB leave for reasons unsaid, although there were some issues with him not taking the right number of classes to remain eligible, and we had another talented WR leave the team and transfer to another school.
All of these issues were supposed to be gone with our new coach.

Rumor was after last season Harrison was done, he was given more chances than Steve Howe.... good riddence to that punk.
Tatum, the DB your refer to, who did not start and was a penalty factory, has been off the team since a winter time fight and that incident apparently also involved Donte Raymond, a starting freshman LB from the team last year. Legal Limbo right here.
Then talented WR, Jefferson, might of been just that, but he never played a down at Delaware.
But no doubt, this was not the kind of Off season they had in mind.

Tatum, with his game experience, was surely expected to start in the defensive backfield this year. He was an agressive hitter (obviously xlolx ). So UD has lost 3 projected starters...there's no getting around that.
Brock has been here since Jan of 2012, so his, "methods" haven't prevented this team from losing talented players to off field issues. And you have to wonder what losing three players, one an Honors student, will do to the graduation/grades prong.
With UD's thin WR depth, it is hard to believe Jefferson would not have seen the field. Haven't heard why he left, but it probably wasn't about playing time.
As Brock (and everyone else) says, "Next man up!"
We'll be running the ball, especially early on, so we'll see how Harrison's loss will impact us.
Still, no excuses...playoffs are the goal.

Is it the same design as the 76ers being one of the worst teams in the league on purpose every single year?
Seems to be working well...:D

even worse, this fight was not amungst a few walk-ons
Harrison picked the promising DB Malcolm Brown to attack, he was going to be a big part of the D this year, but the heck with football for a minute. I just hope Brown is alright medically, but even if he does get healthy you have to think he will be in some kind of legal limbo himself, I mean some lawyer will try to camoflouge Harrison as a upstanding young man

I heard when you enter the gates to the stadium the staff will stamp the word "HE'S" on the ticket right next to the word "history" so everything is accurate.

No but in all seriousness. This sucks for the fans. And I guess for the team that works so hard to have a shot at playing in the title game or winning a conference title. Sadly, I've seen it before at UCA. Ruins a good year for both fans and players.

Honestly, this will not make nearly as big a difference as I will come on here and rabidly claim in Week 13... xlolx
