This past weekend, two of the the powers in 5A (largest class in Texas), Southlake Carrol and Euless Trinity, played at Texas Stadium in the Texas High School State Playoffs. Both were undefeated and Carroll has won 3 of the past 4 5A Division I State Championships. Carroll moved to 5A in 2002 and has lost 1 game since then. The 2003 State Championship game to Katy. Euless Trinity has a high population of Tongan kids that have come over to live in Euless. Their defensive line average something like 6'3 and 275 pounds or something like that. There were over 46,000 people in attendance. 2nd largest attendance for a high school game in the state of Texas.

The largest school in the district (of the 3 that make playoffs) will go Div I

Correction...

Largest two go Div I with smallest two that qualify going to Div II...

5A added the 4th team this year. I believe 4A did as well.

Arizona recently "expanded" their high school playoffs to include 2 divisions for 5A and 4A. The local newspaper had been insisting that it was necessary to allow "good" teams to make it in, sometimes 7-3 wasn't good enough. Well now the playoffs have 4-6 teams qualifiying. For crissakes... if a team wanted to make the playoffs, they simply had to win. Now it's becomming like little league baseball, where everybody gets a trophy for participating.

In Minnesota, EVERY team goes to the playoffs, no matter how god-awful and ****ty a team is, because they have some bullcrap called the Sectionals.

My HS team during my years there (playing and coaching) had regular and post-season (combined) records of 4-6, 0-9, 2-7, 3-7, 2-8 and 2-7, respectively. Needless to say it was an early exit for us every year from the "Section Quarterfinals".
