If Appalachian could get away with having a grass field, KBS would have one. Georgia Southern can get away with having a grass field, hence Paulson has one.

Nothing like the real stuff.

That is exactly what I ment by 'natural'

Denny Washington is a self-made billionare who was born and raised in Missoula, and provided most of the funds for the building of Washington-Grizzly stadium. He is also the biggest source of envy for cat fans.

UC Davis has something going on for sure. Impressive. I like the curving of the ends of the grandstand down around the goal line too....I always hate sitting straight on in stadiums if you are between the 20 and the goal line, that curve gives a better viewing angle IMO.

UC Davis' new stadium is 50 million times better than that embarrassing pile Toomey that they played in before. Sorry to offend Ags fans, but watching NDSU play at Davis last year on TV in that stadium depressed me. That stadium would be a middle-of-the-pack high school stadium in the Minneapolis area (where I went to HS). UC Davis is definitely going places with their new digs. Definitely an expansion away from being FBS quality. Aggie Stadium looks SPECTACULAR.

No, that's life with fieldturf. If it was the real stuff they could paint lines for football during the fall and lacrosse or soccer during the spring.

Just ask GSU, we used Paulson for soccer for about 20 years and we had football lines in the fall and soccer lines in the spring. And that's life in the FCS.

Fieldturf is great is you can't have the real stuff. But a properly maintained natural grass setup in the proper climate with the proper drainage/base cannot be beat.

I have am on the Georgia Southern Lacrosse team and have played lacrosse on Fieldturf, Astroturf, Speedturf, many natural turfs, and Paulson Stadium's turf. Nothing compares to the stuff at Paulson. It's not even close. The only thing that might be better about the fieldturf is the safety factor. But the base foundation at Paulson has a lot of give to it. I play attack and get the crap beat out of me. I'd rather play at Paulson anyday just because it's safe enough and the feel cannot be beat.

I also live in Augusta and go to The Masters every year. The grass at Paulson is kept up with just as well as the grass at The National.

Until you play a competitive game on the stuff at Paulson, you really just cannot fully appreciate how great of a job Roger Inmann and his staff do.

Before they built the soccer stadium they used to play @ Paulson. That is why they built the soccer stadium. Or that is what I have been told (they built the soccer stadium the summer before I got here so I don't know for certain). I know there have been soccer games played at Paulson before because I saw a picture somewhere and the lines were soccer only. Paulson looked beautiful as ever too.

You can paint/wash off lines on fieldturf too.

That's what they do at the Metrodome in Mpls.

UC Davis decided to put permanent lines in the turf for lacrosse, though. Why? Who knows, liberals I guess.

It can and continually is beat in all climates.

Like I said before, he's probably a great guy and nothing against him.

How about this: would you ask Roger to cut the grass at Paulson with scissors?

Probably not, I'm guessing. You'd probably allow him to use a machine mower, right?

So why is it ok to admit that a man can be aided by technology in one instance, but refuse to and stick your head in the sand for another instance?

Makes no sense.

That I would allow someone to cut the grass with a mower does not mean that artificial turf is superior to natural turf. You're suffering from the fallacy of Composition. That artificial turf is superior in some (many?) applications to natural turf does not mean that artificial turf is always superior.

I'm surprised you realize our smaller sides only stretch from about the 10 to the 10 yardlines... An expansion to the endzones and then an expansion upward of about 15-20 rows would be the smartest thing to do if we would move to the MAC. That would get us about 27-29k seats...

I'm only a 10 minute drive from campus so I took a ride over today to check it out in person, freakin amazing. Great little area with some vintage pictures of the past greats, and a plaque commemorating the late Mr.Giglo and his accomplishments--a really nice touch by Jack Bourger I suspect.

How much did this cost? I'm guessing it's more than 100 yards of turf and one side of fencing... xeyebrowx

I believe the cost was somewhere in the neighborhood of $30 million...that includes all the renovations: turf, new/fixed up stands, scoreboard, practice area, pressbox, and the varsity house...

How many of you would be in favor of making this a lot more organized?
Such as a separate site with a search which would be divided by each conference.

That way; other visitors won't have to look through all 108+ pages to see what they wanna see....

I'm sure most FCS stadiums don't have a "home" side and "visitors" side, so much as they just have a bigger side and a smaller side.

our fans usually sit on the press box side, with a few on the opposite end. During my senior year, they moved the student section to the opposite side of the traditional spot. Generally speaking, the only time the visiting team's fans fill the west side is either vs. Jax St or Tenn St.

Only thing is I can't put it on my server, because I must reserve room for my own photo gallery, so we need to look elsewehre.

Yes - he was actually better known for football at Bucknell, although he played all three sports. He made the 1900 Walter Camp All-American team for his all-around play in a low-scoring era. The Bison played a very eclectic schedule in those days, with Mathewson's competition ranging from Army/Navy/Penn State to Lafayette/Lehigh to Swarthmore/Wyoming Seminary. A couple of paragraphs from the BU website:

"Christy Mathewson was one of the five original members of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., but gained his initial athletic fame as a fullback, punter and dropkicker at Bucknell from 1898-1900.

One of the truly outstanding players of his era, Mathewson kicked a point after touchdown in the first varsity game of his freshman year, and in the next three years added 13 touchdowns and eight field goals.

Mathewson gained national attention when he dropkicked two field goals against Pennsylvania in 1899 and added a 45-yard field goal against Army the following year. As a result, he was named the "12th man" on Walter Camp's 1900 All-America team.

Reports in Bucknell files indicate that Mathewson practiced his dropkicking hour after hour, and these reports also note that his punting was exceptional throughout his career, a three-year stretch during which he scored 106 points.

"Matty" was also a punishing runner, and one game account makes note of a 65-yard touchdown run and a 70-yard kickoff return. "

Mathewson, btw, is buried in the cemetery adjacent to the Bucknell campus. Also, the gateway shown in the 4th picture that stands near the field was given to Bucknell by Major League Baseball - I believe at the time when he was made one of the five initial members of the Hall of Fame.

Actually,I've already seen Kidd Brewer. One of my best friends went to App. Of course I respect the dynasty you're building there. I already know that initially, we're going to take a pounding in football, especially from y'all. (I do think that we are already on a fast track to improvement with the new class that first-year coach Pat Sullivan has brought in.)
This has nothing to do with records or scores, I'm simply replying to your suggestion that any stadium w/ two sides must be a high school venue. If that were truly the case, nearly all of us would be compared to a high school field. Those are two totally separate issues.
By the way, just out of curiosity, how hard are you mountaineers pursuing conf USA or Sun Belt?

The concession stands/bathrooms are coming along really well. The brick makes them look very classy. Also they are adding a new brick and wrought iron fence in the courtyard. Another thing to note is the white paint on the pressbox structure has been changed to stucco beige to match the fieldhouse adding a good bit of depth to the stadium from all views. And as a bonus, I threw in a picture of the library expansion.

I don't think I've experienced a better gameday atmosphere than Statesboro, and that includes Athens, Knoxville, or the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail party. It seems as if everybody in Statesboro played for GSU or one of the better high school programs in Georgia or Florida. They know and understand the game as in 2000 in Chattanooga when they started a cheer for a safety that Johnson took their advice on and they won 27-25.

Thanks. We are proud of our reputation for tailgating. It is puzzling why Paulson doesn't stay packed. Georgia Southern has some true die-hard fans but uga is, by far, the most popular school in the state. It seems every trailer I pass has a uga flag flying from it, right below the rebel flag.

More interesting facts about Bowman-Gray Stadium. The stadium is billed as "Nascar's Longest Running Weekly Track". Nascar first sanctioned an event there in 1949 and ran their highest division, now Nextel Cup, there from 1958-1971. It was also the home of Wake Forest until Groves Stadium was completed in 1968. Bowman-Gray has a seating capacity of 17,000.

There are some nice venues in the SWAC. Grambling and Southern both have nice places too. McNeese has been to Grambling, Southern and Alcorn.

Washington-Grizzly is probably the best stadium I've seen, but Youngstown has the nicest press box (which is of a concern to me, considering what I do). McNeese isn't far behind but until they get their paranoid tech people a little sense and put wireless high-speed up there, it falls into the pack.

According to someone SUs track will be removed and the seats be will be moved closer to the field, so that means they are adding seats to both sides about 5,000-10,000 all together and add the 2,500 for construction. Our stadium will be huge.

One very cool aspect of the construction of Aggie Stadium is that the concessions buildings on the East side (opposite press box) are built to withstand the weight of an upper deck.

So, the expansion will go right over the top of the existing. Pretty well planned. I don't know what goes on with the press box, however.

Maybe it's dark in some of the higher seats, but down low and on the field, it seemed very good. They did a good job with the lights. They're built on the edge of the roof, so you can't see them from the outside, which I guess is how the residents nearby allowed it.

That Albany drawing is pretty generic; the basketball arena is supposed to be behind one endzone, with phase 2 construction of training rooms and offices connecting it to the FB field. Plus they're still not sure of the location.

They've been trying to raise $5-8 million in private donations, the local hack sports columnist wrote a 'not with my tax dollars' article. The latest estimate was $31 M for the stadium itself (based on 14K seats) in a $42 M phase1, $60 M total.

But at least they named an interim president today, maybe that will help. Another story today said the stadium is the third priority, behind a new Business building and a new/renovated student union.

Ground has already been broken. The hill that was there is now gone and the construction will resume after the season is over.

Here is a virtual tour of the renovations planned for ODU's Foreman Field (I expect that the name Foreman Field will be changed to reflect some of the corporate sponsoring we are receiving).

One big thing missing is a scoreboard. I suspect we'll have a video board since we are televising the games on closed circuit for the luxury boxes.

Ridonkulous video. I actually got a chill. Seriously...I really see ODU in FBS in 10 years (see S. Florida). Just my opinion.

Thanks. We're all excited. I live 800 miles away and I'm buying four season tickets.

BTW, here is how Foreman Field looks today.

It looks like NCAA 2007 on XBox.

Field Hockey and Women's LAX. They are getting a new facility along with the stadium renovations so Foreman Field will be football only. We built a soccer stadium several years ago.

Yeah...the gray doesn't stand out very well against the field.

This has probably been posted somewhere on here, but this is what Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, NC will look like when renovations are completed.

-UD football stadium and B-Ball arena-

--> "Welcome Stadium" holds 11,000 and draws around 4,000-6,000 a game.

--> B-Ball holds around 14,000 and is consistently sold out.

The UD Flyers moved to Welcome Stadium in 1974. The word "Welcome" implies hospitality, but Dayton has been anything but hospitable to its opponents at home. UD is 184-37-2 (.830) at home. The "Welcome" in Welcome Stadium is not a greeting, but an honor to the late Percival Welcome, longtime Director of Athletics for the Dayton Public Schools. UD has won 41 of its last 50 home games, and 22 of its last 28 road games.

It's not a photo, but its a panaramic video of Coughlin Alumni Stadium at SDSU before the NDSU game. The endzone without the scoreboard is where they are building the 3 story, 30,000 square foot Dykhouse Family Athletic Center.
