Say goodbye to Larry Coker, he's done at Miami.
What do you think will happen to the program in the next few years under new management?

Was this actually confirmed? Last night post game he seemed fairly confident that he would continue. He has/had a longterm contract, so I guess the school is buying it out if your information is correct.
Miami has 19 starters coming back next year, so they could be a real force,nationally. Butch Davis had seemed to have the program turn the corner, culturally, with less the 'gangsta' reputation and enforcing discipline. Coker seems like a decent sort, but I don't know enough of the details to render an opinion on whether he should have been canned, though I'm not surprised if he is. IMO, the University's administration--particulary the AD--are responsible for setting the course. Only if Coker went 'off course' should he be axed.

ESPN is reporting that Coker has been fired, but will be allowed to coach the team if they are selected to a bowl.

I can't disagree with that statement. Of course, that requires hiring a good coach, but they have too much talent, and it's not like they're in the gutter right now either.

The word is they are going to hire Steve Spurrier to be their new coach. Apparantly, Spurrier hasn't liked things all that much in Columbia, S.C.

Spurrier just built a $5m lakefront house in Blythewood. I don't beleive he's going any where. What your talking about Mr. C is a rumor started on the Clemson boards, nothing more.

ESPN reported that rumor last Friday but Spurrier said he had no plans to leave USC. Whatever that is worth..

I'm rooting for them to get Schiano but I think they'd have to blow him out of the water with an offer he can't refuse otherwise he'll be content to keep building Rutgers. If Coker weren't an internal hire I think Randy Shannon would have more of a chance. I'm not feeling Barry Alvarez though.

What about Petrino at Louisville? With his offense and the kids he could get at Miami, it seems like he could be successful.

He could be successful but I am not sure he'd feel that is a step up from the situation he has in Louisville. Plus when Miami players stomped on their Cardinal logo that may have put a bad taste in his mouth.

Petrino would not a be good choice. He has a history of "entertaining" offers, including that terrible idea of speaking with Auburn officials behind everyones back. Miami needs to hire somebody who's going to bring stability to the table.

After the millions Miami spent buying themselves out of the Big East and the 3 Million dollar severance package for Coker, they would never be able to afford what it would take to buy Petrino out of Louisville and still give him the contract he demands. Petrino's new contract was designed to do that.
