48.*For a team that runs the ball as often as NDSU does, success on third down is paramount. The Bison proved that last year, converting at nearly 50 percent, coming in at 48 percent in 2014, 102 out of 211 tries. No surprise that the teams ahead of NDSU are all running teams (Yale, Cal Poly, Illinois State and Richmond). This stat will be huge again in 2015 and for as long as the Bison run the west coast offense, having success on third down will be huge. NDSU has made it easy on the offense in the past couple of years, thanks to the success they've had on first and second down. Countless times over the past four years the Bison have started drives with a seven yard run, setting up either Brock Jensen or Carson Wentz with a 2nd and 3. This success early in drives has led to plenty of points and will continue to be something to watch this upcoming fall.
