At 6-5, 320-pounds, Ethan Greenidge already has the body for college football, and next year, he'll be playing it for Villanova. After attending the Wildcats' game against Towson on Saturday, he gave the coaching staff his commitment (http://www.riverheadlocal.com/2014/11/10/riverheads-ethan-greenidge-heading-villanova-football-scholarship/). He picked the Wildcats over offers from New Hampshire and Stony Brook.
"When I got on campus the coach told me that ‘I consider you a million dollar man'," Greenidge told RiverheadLocal.com. "Between the $250,000 scholarship and the potential job following college, I was already a millionaire he told me."
Greenidge spent last summer on the camp circuit and has been pushing his highlight reels out to coaching staffs in hopes of getting noticed. Villanova took notice, and saw a tremendous improvement over his junior season -- they made the offer official on Friday.
Their timing was good, as Stony Brook had been pushing him to make a decision by Sunday.
Villanova's pitch not only included the opportunity to play for a program that spends much of it's time in the upper-echelons of FCS, but also an opportunity to succeed after college. Education and connections obtained at Villanova were valuable to the big lineman.
He joins eight other known commitments in the Villanova football 2015 class: RB Jarrett McClenton (http://www.vuhoops.com/2014/6/20/5829172/football-class-of-2015-villanova-lands-archbishop-wood-rb-jarrett), DL Bryan White (http://www.vuhoops.com/2014/6/22/5832236/villanova-football-recruiting-2015-wc-henderson-dl-bryan-white-picks), OL Keegan Sheedy (http://www.vuhoops.com/2014/6/23/5834074/villanova-football-recruiting-2015-lancaster-catholics-keegan-sheedy), OL Louie Csaszar (http://www.vuhoops.com/2014/6/25/5843042/villanova-football-recruiting-2015-louie-csaszar-commits-to-the), RB D'Andre Pollard (http://www.vuhoops.com/2014/6/26/5845210/villanova-football-recruiting-2015-neshaminys-dandre-pollard-commits), QB Adeyemi Da Silva (http://www.vuhoops.com/2014/6/29/5854738/villanova-football-recruiting-2015-palisades-park-qb-adeyemi-da-silva), LB Drew Wiley (http://www.vuhoops.com/2014/7/29/5947775/villanova-football-recruiting-2015-hopewell-valley-lb-drew-wiley), and ATH Brandon Chadbourn (http://www.vuhoops.com/2014/8/9/5985845/villanova-football-recruiting-2015-bishop-guilfoyle-ath-brandon).

73. NDSU will have to find two new safeties for the first time since 2011. It's an area on the football field that's been a constant since Colten Heagle and Christian Dudzik arrived on campus in the fall of 2010. Dudzik racked up 73 tackles in his senior season and was a force in the defensive backfield, adding in four interceptions. This is a critical piece of the Bison defense, Tre Dempsey is moving from cornerback to safety in 2015, much like Dudzik did in 2012 after he was all-conference performer in his freshman season. There are several guys in the mix to earn playing time, you can watch the Bison Media Blog's position preview on it here. (http://bisonmedia.areavoices.com/bison-video-blog-defensive-secondary-position-previews/)
73 has special meaning to the Bison football program. Mike Whetstone, a Hall of Fame Bison and All-American, wore #73 for the Herd. Mike defined Bison Pride.
Mike Whetstone was inducted into the NDSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989.

First-team All-America offensive guard for North Dakota State on the 1983
NCAA Division II national championship squad. Three-year starter at offensive
tackle and offensive guard. Earned All-NCC honors in 1982 and 1983. Named to
both the 1983 Kodak and Associated Press All-America first teams. Served as a
student assistant and volunteer assistant coach at NDSU following his playing
days. Whetstone was diagnosed with cancer in March of 1988, and passed away
three days after NDSU’s national championship victory over Portland State in
December, a game that was dedicated to him. Whetstone taped an inspirational
message prior to his death on the meaning of Bison Pride and that tape was
played to the Bison football team prior to the 1988 national title game.
This message, delivered to the North Dakota State football team just before the 1988 national championship win over Portland State, is former Bison All- American Mike Whetstone’s legacy to the program he loved so much. He was an inspiration for the ’88 Bison. Whetstone died of cancer three days following the victory. This message was recorded prior to the semifinal game with Sacramento State and now hangs with his picture on a plaque in the locker room.
“Sometimes the amazing thing is I don't know what Bison Pride is myself, anyone who has been a Bison or will be a Bison will some day relate to what I’m saying.
“To me Bison Pride is not necessarily running around, being rah, rah, and jumping up and down. It’s more of a feeling you have knowing that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
“No one person is Bison Pride. It takes 48 tough bastards if you're in the playoffs and it takes 75 tough bastards during the regular season. It takes the players and coaches working together for a common good.
“Deep down, Bison Pride is the love we have for each other. I have noticed over the years that my true friends, my true life, everything evolves around Bison players and Bison people. I have friends outside of football, but for the most part, everything comes back to football, Bison football.
“The amazing thing that I have found in the last six months since discovering cancer is that people who have rallied around me the most are the Bison players and Bison alumni. I had former players come down to Rochester to visit me in the hospital--they traveled 300 miles just to visit me. I had friends from high school who were just 20 miles away, and they didn’t visit me. They just called on the phone.
“I guess to me that is what Bison Pride is all about, everybody looking out for each other. The strength of the Herd is in the Bison and the strength of the Bison is in the Herd. Bison Pride is knowing that everybody is looking out for everyone else.
“I want every Bison that’s ever been involved in the program to know that I love them. Kick some butt this weekend. We can’t let those California people think they’re better than us. Go out there and get ‘em guys.”
Good luck with the upcoming season and in the classroom Zack.
66 days until North Dakota State University goes to Missoula Montana and beats the University of Montana.
