Jafonta Johnson, a 6'4" 235 lb. defensive end from Syracuse, New York has committed to play football for Villanova per syracuse.com (http://highschoolsports.syracuse.com/news/article/4769643388433460889/henninger-linemen-visit-commit-to-fcs-football-schools/). Johnson took an official visit to the Main Line this past weekend and was impressed enough to give Andy Talley his verbal commitment.
Johnson was a 2nd-team All-State selection and also a 1st-team All-CNY selection this past season, in which he recorded 12.5 sacks for Henninger High School. He also held offers from Buffalo, Maine, New Hampshire and Wagner. Per his coach, Dave Kline, Johnson has family in Philadelphia and once Villanova offered he was "very excited."
Johnson has good size for the position, but is joining a deep group returning a lot of talent on the edge of the defensive line and will have to work hard to see immediate playing time. Villanova has Tanoh Kpassagnon, Noble Ajakaiye, Austin Calitro, Mike Williams and Eric Drains back next season - all saw good minutes in the rotation.

87. That other guy named Wentz. Connor Wentz wears number 87 for the Bison, he's quarterback Carson Wentz's cousin. He had a small impact in 2014, catching just four passes for 42 yards, but half of those receptions were touchdowns, he scored twice in the win at Missouri State. Connor plays a position where the Bison had unreal depth last year with Kevin Vaadeland back and Luke Albers developing into a nice downfield threat. With Vaadeland gone, I'm curious to see if Wentz will take that next step and get more reps on the field. He's competing with Jeff Illies as well, but there's playing time to be had there and from what we've seen he has the hands to be able to make plays. We may see more of the Wentz to Wentz connection in 2015.
