Earlier this week Stony Brook Athletics unveiled their 5 year plan for the future of athletics . The plan includes an Indoor Practice facility for football and other field sports tentative ground breaking for this is the summer of 2016. In addition our football stadium will be expanded from its current 8300 seat size to a little over 20k. This includes a complete second deck around the stadium and seating above the north end zone. To finance these projects and future projects we intend to raise 100 million dollars over the next five years through a new organization know as Sea Wolves United. Membership begins at 100 dollar donations up to 25,000 dollar donations. This is an ambitious plan to say the least but as a fan I love the vision of our new Athletic Director . Other parts of the plan include winning at least 5 Conference Titles a year and advancing to the 2nd round of the respective NCAA Play Offs. He is also looking for at least one National Championship Title in any of the 20 sports we sponsor.
So exciting times are ahead at Stony Brook for sure adding two more new facilities to our growing list of facilities including our new basketball arena , Joe Nathan Field and our track and field complex. . No date was given on the stadium expansion.

"Plans"? I'm sure every team has "plans" to win conference championships. I believe that has always been their "plan". So far, more like pipedreams.

Stony Brook won 7 conference titles in 2012-2013.
Link to the article is here (http://brook.land/2015/05/athletics-unveils-new-100-million-five-year-plan/). I think it's important to note that actual plan hasn't been actually been announced yet. This is just a blog post summarizing what was discussed at a fundraising event.

With a larger stadium, would it be fair to say that SBU is looking to FBS in the longer term? Sets up some interesting football conference possibilities....

SBU will have trouble as long as Cuomo is in office. He specifiically vetoed their money this year in a line-item veto.
More power to them though for putting fancy pictures together.
It really is a shame SUNY is so far behind other state systems in athletics. Shouldn't even be a discussion that SBU, Albany and Buffalo should be playing at the same level. Unfortunately because it took so long to get moving.
