Does not make the Davidson football program or admissions department look too good. xsmhx

Wow, what a misleading thread title. One school and one school only....

This is one of those articles that seems to lack a point. Specifically, why would Davidson do this intentionally. Since Davy offers no scholarships, would it make a bit of difference financially whether or not they recruited player #2 or player #3 or even player #10 - or all 3?
And in the end, he didn't meet their academic standards in the first place. It is also interesting that he chose to go to a non-football school.
The incident may be "unflattering" to Davidson, but the article never really explains why they would do this.
Of course the most "unflattering" component of this whole mess to Davy is the atrocity they call a football team.

What they describe is an Ivy admissions system without the a/i. Davidson is the only PFL school doing it that way.

This issue needs clearer explanation, preferably by third parties. But why he chose to end up at an ex-FCS school? He should've gone D-III. xsmhx

The fact he ended up at Northeastern makes no sense. If he wanted to play football, why go there?

This is a high school newspaper. Why are we linking a high school newspaper? It is literally written by actual children.

Agree with what others have said.
The PFL is a D-III model. No scholarships. No athletic related aid. Davidson did not pull an aid package from under this kid. Perhaps Davidson football gets some admission "slots" and the only story here is if he was given an admission slot for football, and that was then backed out. Most likely the kid just didn't get in. It happens.
Northeastern is a good school, but Davidson is much more difficult to gain admission.

So, a recruiting coordinator screws up and is no longer with the program. Got it. Sorry this kid was misled, but crap happens. If he wanted to play FB, there are plenty of other options (if he can gain admission).

The kid who commented on Twitter says it happened to him as well. He will be playing at D-II Florida Tech.

It seems like the kid wanted to be D1. He should be able to find a decent D2 or walk on to a FCS program.

Some key things to keep in mind here:
* Since Davidson is non-scholarship, his criteria for admission goes through the admissions office, not the athletic department.
* It is not enough to compare SAT scores or GPA to determine admissions. Admissions is made on a whole slew of data points - personal interview, application, etc.
* It is odd that the football coaching staff said he was admitted when he wasn't. At best they were misinformed and made a mistake. At worst they were misleading the kid and making assumptions of their admissions office that were completely inappropriate.
* It seems like a pretty big mistake to make. How hard would it have been for the coaching staff to check with admissions whether he was early decision or not?
* "Gruber told Fick that his application had never been read and that he had no recollection of his name." Something is wrong here.

Most leave their(January)recruiting weekend visit with a post dated acceptance letter included in their packet with all the financial info etc. It is what all future students receive in the mail in April. Sounds like he got the run around from a school that cannot allow players to get away. What a shamexconfusedx
