It was actually pretty awesome. It created a lot of "drama" in every round.

It also kept the HR totals pretty close. Nobody could go off on a Josh Hamilton/Bobby Abreu run and bury the competition.

That said, there were actually more HR hit in this competition and any previous one.

Oh...2nd best record in the AL right now?

The Twins.

Guys weren't afraid to swing at a pitch that wasn't "perfect" because it wasn't going to hurt them.

I really, really, liked it. The strategy that the 45 second time out added was pretty interesting as well.

I could do without the 30 second bonus round for 2 or more HR of 425' but it wasn't a bad thing. I'd rather see that come at like 450' or 460'...which almost every guy would have still hit

Their fans have gone from non-existent to everywhere, having always been die hard fans, and now feeling the need to overcompensate how good they are for how bad they have been.

It's like taking recent Seahawk, Packers, Yankees fans of the 90s and early 00s, and lakes/jbb and putting it into one fan base.

I couldn't live there. Though, I see a lot of it here and to make it worse around here the Cubs are relatively decent/hopeful again. Their fans are just as bad.

I used to live in the Cleveland TV market and they had a color guy named Rick Manning and he was a sickening homer, good thing the Indians weren't all that good.

Rex Hudler for the Royals is Hawk Harrelson without the old guy charm. Unfortunately MLB.tv is blacked out when the Royals are on so I have to listen to them on TV unless I want to sit in my living room with my headphones on.

There's no "old guy charm" about Harrelson.

There's no any kind of charm about him.

He is scum of the earth when it comes to baseball.

He's a known commodity. He's like that drunk uncle at Christmas, you listen to him and just wait for the crazy to come out.

How was the new format for the HR derby last night?

I liked it. Guys were taking swings basically as soon as the ball landed. Helped that the derby was in the Reds bandbox of a stadium.

I realize he's a personality, but I've never really liked Chris Bermann doing the HRD. I don't mind his calls, but he's not a baseball guy. Get a baseball guy.

When he broke out the Hawk Harrelson comment I wanted to break my TV.

Braves have Chip Caray (grandson of Harry Caray) on the TV broadcasts. Obviously loves the game, but is just too over the top for me.

The radio guys, Jim Powell and Don Sutton are fantastic. The Braves have the largest radio network in professional sports, and their radio guys are just wonderful to listen to.

Powell was in Milwaukee with Uecker when I lived up that way. I liked them together.

Color guys are supposed to be homerish but I like guys like Ueck and Bert Blyleven. They are excited when their team makes good plays but they aren't actively cheering like a fan. There's a balance that's important.

xlolx I agree. There are some good things about dropping cable. I don't miss "Stretch!, stretch!, stretch!".

Yesterday was my first day without cable...and I somehow survived...

The only thing worse than Hawk is going to a game at US Cellular Field and having every Sux fan wearing shirts that have the "top 10 Hawk-isms" listed on the back...and then yelling them all game like they are Hawk.

I wanted to harm myself after that game.

We are in a 4 or 5 month trial period. Dropping cable from my internet/cable bundle is saving us $90 per month. I'm now paying 50 for 50 meg Internet and that's it.

Our 2 year agreement is up in November so we'll see how well adjusted we can get to other forms of watching tv.

It was also driven by the fact that my 2.5 year old walked into my wife's grandfather's house over the 4th and went "why tv off? Turn it on". Made us reevaluate our home life real quick

The Twins were the ones I picked. I can see they moved a few people around to get everybody a chance. Randy Johnson probably should have been a Mariner and Schilling should have been a Philly but they won the WS with the DBacks

Hard to argue with the Braves' selections. Three hall of famers (Aaron, Spahn, and Maddux) and a one likely to joint them soon (Jones).

and he was just left hanging on the AGS Fantasy League waiver wire so long I had to pick him up, Cano is really a fool for signing with Seattle if he cares about his final offensive numbers..... but I do admit he'll get about a Billion pesos when he exchanges his $$$ back home

Greatest living players seems okay without thinking too hard about it.

For the Tigers? Cobb and Kaline definitely. Greenberg and Cabrera I'm okay with. Charlie Gehringer and Alan Trammell certainly deserve consideration as well. By the way, the only way I'd even consider keeping Miggy off is because he spent about half his career to date with the Marlins.

Best guess is the Braves will be sellers. A poor end to the pre-break road trip and news that Freddie Freeman may still be out several weeks has taken the wind out of playoff sails.

Though they have already traded away a lot of players, the Braves have some veterans on short contracts that are the type of attractive player teams like to deal for at the deadline. AJ Pierzynski is having one of his best offensive seasons of his career, Jim Johnson has looked good, Kelly Johnson has had a resurgence, Juan Uribe has been good as well. I think those four guys are almost assuredly dealt.

The closer questions are Cameron Maybin and Chris Johnson. Braves would love to offload Johnson on anybody. Maybin has been fantastic in Atlanta, and the Braves need to decide whether he is part of the long-term plan, or whether they should deal him at peak value to a contender.

Really good read on AJ Preller's dismantling of the Padres. http://grantland.com/features/aj-preller-mlb-san-diego-padres-national-league-west/

I was particularly interested given the Braves' connections to several of those deals. Just a scathing piece.

Saw the second game of the three game sweep of Miami! Hamels got lit up for the second straight start today, but Phils win on a walk-off HR from Francoeur, 8-7.

Meanwhile, looks like Arrieta is the better of the Cubs' aces (with Lester putting his struggles behind him now), although both pitchers won at Atlanta recently.

Who do you think will be the biggest name to be dealt at the Trade Deadline? xchinscratchx

Nola threw a great game last night. 6 innings, 5 hits, 1 run and 6 Ks. Showed real poise after the lead off double to get two K's, including Langoria. Gave up a solo HR to the pitcher and the pitch was not bad-down at the knees. As usual, no run support and the Phils winning streak came to an end, 1-0. Another rookie pitcher, Adam Morgan going this afternoon, who has shown some ability. A few glimmers on the horizon.

I need to look into that problem you & clenz pm'd me about cuz it is odd that some of those guys can't be reported...but I have a button that cleans out everything they've done and reports the IP and email to the listing services to help spread the cure to keep these guys from having it easy.

I'm gonna delete this thread in a little bit just wanted both you and clenz to see this...and anyone else that can't report those spammers. A pm and a link was very helpful so thanks much fella's.
