Long-time, in-state directional rivals Western Carolina and East Carolina are scheduled to renew the football series with the 2016 season-opener it was announced this week. WCU and ECU have signed a contract for a Sept. 3, 2016 meeting at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in Greenville, N.C., ending what will be a 35-year hiatus in the series.
