Is anyone outside the state of Texas and Louisiana, other than me, watching the Stephen F. Austin-Northwestern State game? Ralph, are you watching?

Mr. C

For those who care, but are not by a television, this has been pretty much an SFA show. It's 17-0 with five minutes left in the first half. And it could have been worst if the host Lumberjacks had not had a pass intercepted in the end zone. The Northwestern State offense has done little and surprisingly, the Purple Swarm defense has been extremely porous, particularly in the secondary. 270 yards of total offense already for SFA.

Mr. C
November 16th, 2006, 09:31 PM
SFA is trying to figure out what to do on fourth and goal. They finally decide to kick a field goal after a delay of game penalty (which is declined to keep a bad angle on the 21-yard kick). Kick is good for Corey Long. 20-0 SFA with 1:05 left in the first half. SFA has only had to punt once and has scored on four of their six drives.

Mr. C

Scott Stoker called the first half for Northwestern State "The worst half of football we have played this year."

The Demons are trying to climb back into this one with three minutes left in the third. Their third pass completion (freshman QB making his first start) of the night moved them deep into SFA territory.

Mr. C

Third and goal from the five. Almost intercepted.

Mr. C

Going for the field goal. Robert Weeks good from 22. 20-3 with 1:45 left in the third.

They just put up a graphic with the Southland standings on the screen. Ironically, Central Arkansas (not eligible for the title until next year) has the best record of ANY Southland team at 7-3.

Mr. C
November 16th, 2006, 10:37 PM
Chris Miller of NW State return a punt 61 yards to the SFA 16. SFA's Josh Andrews saved a touchdown with a nice tackle.

Fumble and Damian Perkins of SFA recoveres it on a safety blitz by Carlos Anders.

This is indeed very true:D , however 4 of those wins were against Division II schools, with 3 I-AA wins (MO State, SFA, and Sam Houston) and 3 I-AA L's (IL State, UC Davis, and South Dakota State)...still a great first year of transition regardless of what happens this weekend against GA Southern!! (Although I predict the Bears will finish the year 8-3)

Don't be surprised if your team gets a win against Georgia Southern. They are beat up and demoralized and coming off a loss to Furman, one of their two biggest rivals. Good time to catch them.

Missed field goal by SFA leaves it 20-3 early in the fourth.

The Demons' Greg Skidmore had a TD on a swing pass and tripped and fell at the SFA 22. And he fell a foot short of the first down, too.

Mr. C
November 16th, 2006, 10:58 PM
And then the freshman QB misses his wide-open TE on what could have been a TD on second and short after a good play-action fake.

Touchdown for TE Clayton Broyals. But ineligible receiver downfield negates it. The color commentator says its a bogus call.

Mr. C
November 16th, 2006, 11:00 PM
Third and seven for the Demons from the 17. False start for NW State on full blitz by SFA. 12th penalty of the night for the Demons.

Mr. C
November 16th, 2006, 11:03 PM
Fourth down and five and the Demons go for it. First down and then Damian Perkins forces and recovers a fumble for SFA.

They only played two Southland conference teams and three Div II's. Also, they didn't play two Div I-A's like most of the teams in the conference did.

We'll see how they do next year when they play everybody.

We didn't come to play this game, definitely flat after the OT loss to McNeese which ended any chance for a conference title/autobid. Besides, every 3-4 years we let the Chief go away for a visit before coming back home for quite some time.
