Anyone else annoyed they keep calling this the "College Football Playoff?"
I think the FBS is virtually the only level of football that did not have a playoff. Pop Warner to NFL.

This is a playoff, though...

I'm a Big 10 fan, but go Ducks!
And how about that 2-5 bowl record for the SEC West? xlolx

Oregon is a strange defense.
They give up yards by the ton...but that's be design. We saw a perfect example of how their defense works yesterday. Play a zone, let the WR catch the ball and then strip the ball to force a TO.
The Ducks ato top 20 in scoring defense, top 10 in turnovers forced, #2 in turn over margin, # 3 in fumbles recovered, and only giving up 22 points per game while scoring 48

Kind of wild. Not necessarily expected.
I expected Ole Miss to to struggle, as they essentially were spent by season's end after losing their best player to injury. Everyone else just sorta laid an egg.
2-5 record isn't great, but 7 bowl eligible teams in one daggum division is pretty stout, though.

Go Buckeyes. Their '3rd string' qb is a beast. Reminds me of Vince Young at Texas. The depth is ridiculous.

It's pretty ****ing hard not to be a bowl eligible team as a P5 school, is it not?
SEC teams schedules tend to look - FCS, Sun Belt, MAC low level P5 team OOC.
Only need 2 conference wins to get there most of the time

How the hell, as an SEC school, would you not be bowl eligible with those schedules? What's the average football budget as SEC West schools? 20 mil? I would hope throwing that kind of $$$ around you could get to 6 wins

76 schools got to go to bowls. I think that left out 3 or so that were at least 6-6, one being UAB. Then of course there were some which were not eligible because they moved up. Pretty hard NOT to make a bowl.

FBS teams with 6 wins that didn't get to a bowl
CUSA:
ODU: 6-6/4-4 (Not sure if they were actually bowl eligible or not)
Middle Tennessee State: 6-6/5-3 (all CUSA tie in bids used)
UAB: 6-6/4-4 (all CUSA tie in bids used)
****OF THESE ONLY MTSU FINISHED TOP 4 IN CUSA FULL STANDINGS..THEY WENT 1-3 OOC AND ONLY TEAM TO BE OVER .500 IN CONFERENCE
MAC:
Ohio: 6-6/4-4 (all MAC bids used)
Sun Belt
Georgia Southern: 9-3/8-0 (not bowl eligible)
App State: 7-5/6-2 (not bowl eligible)
Texas State: 7-5/5-3 (all Sun Belt bids used)
There were 7 teams that had at least 6 wins that didn't get a bowl.
3 were not bowl eligible
none were P5 teams....and all were "bottom G5 conference teams)
none had more than 7 wins...
All were in a spot that they were low enough in the conference that conference bow tie ins were used up and it came down to an AAC/MWC/P5 team or a 6 win CUSA team

Well that went well. I had picked the Ducks in my bowl picks, but the 'Noles had a ton of chances. First three trips into the red zone produced two field goals. A ton of turnovers in the second half with the team driving. Brutal. Not as bad as watching the Pitt/Delaware game, but bad nonetheless.

I think the official name of the 4-team playoff is "College Football Playoff" which probably makes more sense than Bowl Championship Series Playoff Bowls.

So we should be calling this and the teams in it the CFP instead of the FBS? Of course, the FCS has been doing this for how long?
It was easier when they used D1 and 1AA.
