per their website the NDSU/Ill. St. game is next on their schedule......grounds should be fine......if they give it the same attention as if it was a 1-A game.

There is no way it could be worse than last year

Last year's freak cold spell killed the new sod before it could take root. I'm sure it will be better this year. Here's what the field looked like after the 2011 championship (played in 2012).

That happens with Bermuda grass on fields and golf courses around this area regularly (central IL).

it goes dormant after a first frost and starts growing again after the temp gets high enough. if those things happen in another order like gets real hot then freezes again sometimes it will kill the grass totally.

in my area, you will see a lot of schools playing late season playoff games on 100% yellow/brown grass

Which is exactly why in areas with variable climatic conditions its best to stick with cool season turfgrasses like Kentucky Bluegrass, ryegrass, or any of the Fescues and completely avoid the warm season grasses like Bent, Zoisia or Bermuda

Bent is quite nice in the tee boxes and fairways of my favorite local golf course, but it just won't work on athletic fields this far North.

Bentgrass is a cool season grass but is generally not used on athletic fields other than golf courses because it has very shallow roots.

Because of last year new sod has NOT been put down prior to the game this year. It was thought to be better to play on the field as is rather than risk the mess of last year.

I think the game should be played on turf anyway. I don't want to know who is better in mud or tore up grass. I want to know who is best with as many predictable factors as possible

Yeah, so what? Sucks to watch so whatever needed to be done to make sure it doesn't happen again is all that matters and I believe what was being inquired about.

I mean once in the middle of the game and all when nothing can be done I agree with you completely.

But the fact is last years turf was a disservice to both teams and the fans who should have witnessed a much better contest. In a championship game the game should be about the two teams . The turf shouldnt have any material effect on the outcome of the game.

I've still got a piece in the freezer of my mini fridge in my office. Going to attempt transplant it after I put a sprinkler system (and yard) in next year.

Im not sure you need all that. You need hot and humid. I think Bermuda may even be a "pest" some places. I think you could take the clippings from a mower and spread them out over a parking lot and it would take over the next time the weather was hot and humid for a few weeks

I will agree with this as long as the only play is the 6-9 games of football that are played on it. Not other foreign sports or practices like band or even football

Because the original design was supposed to be identical to the TacomaDome. They changed the design but kept the name.
