Yes and also I better see Art Briles on TV all ****ing week saying UNI is the de facto national champion since they beat both teams on the field and this is America and that's how Americans decide stuff. At least that's what he thinks this year.

Like any normal MVFC game I think the game will be won and lost in the trenches. ISU has a massive O-line that could give NDSU's defensive front problems. If I recall, the last game in Normal in 2012 the Bison struggled quite a bit to generate a pass rush in the 1st half.
On the other side NDSU's O-line is playing pretty well but ISU knows how to defend the run (see David Johnson's numbers in the UNI game) although they did get gashed a bit by Stereti (sp?) today. I think it'll be a great matchup and a fitting end to a dominant season by the MVFC.
Interesting side note, ESPN College Gameday's producer was tweeting about the Bison yesterday and I'm wondering if there's a possibility that they do something of a pregame show un January 10th. The FBS national championship game is two days later also in Dallas so their crews would likely already be there. Perhaps there's a chance for a shortened 1-2 hour Gameday from Frisco where they'd mostly preview the FBS game but also get the FCS game some additional attention. Haven't heard any rumors but just spitballing.

It seems like this 2014 Illinois St team is very similar to the 2013 Towson team in terms of personnel (stud RB, mammoth O-line, solid defense) with one big difference, the Redbirds have a QB that's a game changer with his legs. Another big advantage NDSU will have is everyone on the team from the coaching staff through all the players is familiar with the championship process whereas Illinois St will have to figure that out as they go.

Next: Jan. 10, 2015 – 12 noon CT (ESPN2) – Frisco, Texas. Illinois State vs. North Dakota State
·Illinois State (13-1) is making its first title game appearance. The Redbirds beat UNI, Eastern Washington and New Hampshire in the playoffs to get there.
·North Dakota State (14-1) is making its fourth-straight title game trip. The Bison are the three-time defending national champions and beat South Dakota State, Coastal Carolina and Sam Houston State to reach Frisco this year.
·The teams did not play each other this year and shared the MVFC title with identical 7-1 league records (both teams lost at UNI). The teams (ISU, NDSU) were declared co-champions and NDSU earned the league’s automatic bid designation to the playoffs by virtue of a better national GPI rating (NDSU-1, ILS-2 in that rating).
·The MVFC finished the season 30-2 against non-league FCS teams, with the only two losses on the road at then-ranked #4 Montana (regular season) and then-ranked #8 Chattanooga (playoffs).
·The league also set a record with 11 wins against non-conference top-25 teams (five in the regular season, six in the playoffs).
·The MVFC set a record with 9 playoff wins (the league is 9-3 in the playoffs this year, and that includes two games in which it played another league member). The previous record was 8 by CAA Football in 2004, 2008, and 2009). The MVFC is guaranteed a 10th win.
·Valley Football teams have defeated the No. 1 tournament seed five times (including New Hampshire this year). Illinois State's win at New Hampshire also marked the 14th win for the league against a No. 1-ranked team.
·North Dakota State has won 15-consecutive playoff games.
·A Valley Football team has played in the title game 7 previous times, winning five of those games.
·Valley Football teams are 76-54 all-time in the playoffs (since the league was founded in 1985). The league is 28-10 this decade. And the league is 24-7 in the last four tournaments, including this year.

Congrats to both ISUr and NDSU. After losing to the Redbirds, I secretly wished for this match-up in the NC. I think it's very intriguing to see two powerhouse conference mates from the strongest conference meet in Frisco to determine not only the National Champion, but the true MVFC champion. I was surprised to see the Redbirds down a lot of the game against UNH, but they found a way to win. I don't think NDSU rolls, as it seems the strong MVFC teams were able to give the Bison a game this year. I think this will be a good game, and I look forward to watching it.

I normally hate it when teams from the same conference are playing for a national title, especially if it's a rematch of a regular season game (Alabama-LSU in the 2012 BCS championship game, I'm looking at you). However, I'm actually happy that this is the championship matchup since these are two top teams that never faced each other in conference play. Here's to ISU ending the Bison's reign.

I normally would not like like a conference NC matchup, or even a re-match from earlier in the season. But in the FCS playoffs format you can't go wrong. 24 teams, both NDSU and ISU-R had three opportunities to fall before Frisco. Both teams have proven they deserve to be in Frisco and may the best team win.

UNH played a very good game defensively yesterday.
Ill State and NDSU will be a slobberknocker game. NDSU's quick DEs might be able to get some pressure on Roberson but the LBers better play gap sound or the defense will be in trouble.

ISU is merely "reserving" tickets, then unless you're a season ticket holder or have points through the Weisbecker Scholarship Fund, you're basically at the bottom of the list until all ISU fans have placed orders. Cool thing is if you have season tix to ANY ISU sport, you're eligible for NC Tix.
Hope that allows all of the ISU fans wanting to go to get theirs first.

If they play the way they do from the SHSU and can get Vraa back and have Polasek keep doing what he is doing, I don't see how they could lose. It will come down to whether or not the STs give up big plays. I could see the Bison playing a lot Nickle packages to make sure Roberson is kept in check and force them to stay in the trenches all day.
3 keys to winning the NC
1) Coprich is held to under 100yds and Roberson under 250 total yds
2) STs prevent them from gaining big plays
3) Bison have the ball for 35+ on the TOP
Yes, I realize how obvious these are, but if these 3 things happen, it will be a 2 score difference at the end of the game. I expect Roberson to gain more than 250 but with the Bison getting time to heal, I don't expect Coprich to do much. I expect him to be like West last year; where they thought he'd be himself and run wild but was held in check and kept Towson from even being in the game past the 1st Quarter. I think the main Xfactor(s) will be the Bison are playing in Fargo South and they have been here before and know what if takes to win the final one. I expect the Bison to report 19000 to Frisco.
After all this amateur analysis, I believe the outcome will be 30-17 NDSU.

I do think ISU has had the tougher road to Frisco. And outside of NDSU dominating a worn out/banged up SHSU team, they looked very beatable at home against SDSU and CC. Should be a good game. Love it when these two teams play. Bohl was quoted a few years ago saying that he hated playing ISU more than any other team in the MVFC because of how physical they play under coach Spack. I think if any team can end NDSU's run, it's our guys this year.

You may want to try again because the stuff you just threw ain't sticking. These teams had 8 common opponents and OOC NDSU had a much tougher schedule with Montana and an FBS yet the defensive statistics favor NDSU pretty sinficantly in almost every major category.
1) Scoring defense: NDSU - 13.2 (2nd in the nation), ISU - 20.9 (20th in the nation)
2) Total defense: NDSU - 270.8 (3rd), ISU - 337.6 (28th)
3) Rushing defense: NDSU - 115.9 (19th), ISU - 114.9 (16th)
4) Passing defense: NDSU - 154.9 (3rd), ISU - 222.7 (75th)
5) Pass efficiency defense: NDSU - 97.29 (3rd), ISU - 115.47 (32nd)
NDSU has the clear advantage defensively. Offensively, I think ISU has the advantage but it's not as big as you may think. The offensive rushing averages are almost dead even with ISU have a good advantage passing so the one thing you said that I would agree with is that ISU has better receivers but that's about all I can agree with.

So your explaining in detail is the eyeball test from a guy on a message board that is a fan of the team that just got beat at home? Sounds like you just wanna make yourself feel better saying you lost to the champs. Luckily for everyone they will play the game. NDSU might win or lose. It's a coin flip in my eyes. I'll let the players decide it instead of a bunch of arm chair qb's (myself included). Tough loss. Believe me I was cheering for UNH. It would have been a much easier game to predict.

....... Not at all like I said I've been watching both of the team all playoffs just making an observation, sure either team could win, not that salty about the loss, just think ISUr is going to pull it off based off what I've seen, it's OBVIOUSLY ANY GIVEN SATURDAY. Also see why do ya gotta be a jerk..... ISUr beat up on a very soft non-conference schedule but really had some close Valley games and have had some close playoff games as well.
Before the Sammy game they were all 10 feet tall with superhuman speed. After NDSU beat them up there are all of a sudden tired and not good for some reason.
Every team that NDSU has played has supposedly been "the toughest team yet". It's laughable.

Got a wedding to go to in Colorado jan 10th otherwise I'd be there. This is why no one should be allowed to get married from Labor Day wkend until March. I'd be shocked if isu brings more than 1k, though I do think some of our alums and bball only fans will travel for this.
This game hasn't even made the sports section of any chicago market news/sports outlets. People in our state, unfortunately, give zero ****s about FCS football. We'd rather bitch incessantly about how much the Bears suck and why notre dame hasn't won a title in a generation.
Chicago is a pro sports town first and a Notre Dame and Big 10 town second but the Sunday Chicago Tribune had a 10 paragraph article on the UNH game on page 6. It's 3 weeks until the championship game and the UNH game was yesterday so I would expect that to get the publicity first. ISU playing in the national championship game was mentioned on WMVP (ESPN) radio earlier today.

I think NDSU will give up 20 points in this game which will take a great defensive effort. The question is can NDSU score more than 20. ISUr is good against the run so NDSU will have to pass for a ton of yards to win. So the question is can they pass for enough yards to win considering two of the top receivers may be out or not healthy. So I think it all comes down to NDSU's ability to pass or not which will decide the game. Either way I have this as Bison being a 3 point favorite due to the intangible of being in Frisco the past three years and learning how to deal with all the hoopla and managing practice time.

No Dakota St does hold the advantage. Yet on the way to this point they also enjoyed several advantages. They played the easier bracket. They played three home games during which they barely slid by twice. I don't know that Illinois State can beat them. However IL State did defeat the only team who has beaten them (and NDSU) this year. IL State played two of their three games on the road covering both ends of the continent. Regardless of the outcome I suspect it will be a close game. Overall I get the feeling the mighty Bison may return home from Frisco as the disappointed little buffalos dragging their tails. I also don't see a ton of respect for an ILSTU team that has went on the road from coast to coast winning in a blowout and grinding out a win at the #1 seed. I don't think the Bison make it to Frisco if they don't play 3 games in Fargo. The 3 weeks off will be huge for both teams, and I see the Redbird offense playing well in Frisco.

Nope. Schools have to fund the band travel themselves. We've (NDSU) been fortunate in being able to send the band for the last three years.

The only criticism I've seen is when ISUR is picked to score over 30 points. The Bison defense has not given up over 30 points in 4 years. Coastal got over 30 on a special teams TD. It's more about confidence in the Bison defense. If ISUR does score over 30 and wins, our hats are off to them. for now, Bison fans will take pride in the record of the defense.

I'm more worried about Roberson than Coprich. The Bison have been vulnerable to running QBs and Roberson is probably the best dual threat they've seen this year (even though Jared Johnson has slightly better numbers on the ground). MLB Nick DeLuca is going to be a big key for the Bison on defense. I thought the biggest difference between the Bison defense versus CCU and SHSU was how well he played. This is another game where the Bison will miss Travis Beck's relentless pursuit at WLB but if DeLuca can play more like he did against SHSU than CCU I think the Bison can contain the Redbirds potent ground attack.

oh brother, is everybody forgetting that this is the best team ISU will face all season? They have to worry about John Crockett and Kyle Emanuel. There's a reason these seniors are 57-3, they don't roll over for anyone.
ISU will shut down our run game and make Wentz beat them. We'll miss wide open receivers, drop passes, etc. It'll be the UNI game all over again.
They'll be smarter then most and double KE all game. Probably chip him with a TE and RB too. Roberson will have all day to sling the ball all over the field on us or run wild whichever he chooses. Either way it'll be over before it even starts!

And despite my distaste for their fans I still want them to win this game xthumbsupx
Prior to the UNH game I was confident ISUr could beat anyone including NDSU in Frisco. I am not as sure after last week, but UNH was a great team and they did go into Durham and win. They will have to play much better and Coprich will have to have his usual game not the same sort of game he had against UNH.
I know ISUr shut down DJ in our playoff game, but they weren't worried about us completing a pass. Wentz will have to hit receivers otherwise they can sell out on Crockett. Should be in interesting matchup. I want ISUr, but I feel like NDSU takes it by about 7.

I think ILSTU will have well over 1000 fans at this game as Dallas is one of the largest Alumni bases, outside of Chicago.

Seems like every prediction/comment that isn't pro North Dakota State is getting critiqued/bashed. I guess winning three straight gives you that right.
However, the picked sixth in the MVFC and unranked in the preseason Redbirds will show up anyway. With Spack leading this group, I'm confident ISU can bring home the national championship trophy.
Looking forward to some friendly exchange at the game with the green and yellow clad fans.
Seems like every time someone picks the Bison to win, even if it's by a slim margin, Redbird fans take offense and pick up their cross. Can someone make me an avatar of their mascot wearing a crown of thorns? Geez.

No one said they can't. That's the amazing part is that Redbird fans keep crying "no respect" but in reading through this thread I see a lot of respect.
Both teams have great talent on the field and coaching staffs. With 3 weeks prep I could see any result. I expect a close game, but wouldn't be surprised to see either team start to run away with it if one team gets hot and the other doesn't execute.

True but I also think that was the worst Bison team of the last 4 years. That sounds kind of blasphemous to say because they were a great team in their own right but one of the teams has to be put there. I really think this year's NDSU team is better than that team but unless they win in Frisco they won't be better for long.

The key to that game, and all the subsequent ones, has been defense. Sam Houston was the #1 offense in the country going in to that game with something like 40ppg but they were held to 6 points. There is something about being unable to do what you want on offense that takes the wind out of a team, especially one that hasn't been there before. Do not underestimate the power of experience and poise in this situation. NDSU never panics when they are down or even, they just wait for their chance and seize it.

Not sure if this is the best team NDSU has faced over the past four, also believe this is a much weaker Bison team than the past two years. Yet I think what makes this year's title game very interesting is these teams KNOW each other. Being conference foes should provide for a better/tighter game than some championships. I'll disagree that they're much weaker. They aren't as good on offense as the 2013 team and aren't as good on defense as the 2012 team but they aren't far behind either. The numbers back that up. I think many people, Bison fans included, want to think they're worse than previous seasons because they tend to remember the more recent struggles and past triumphs moreso than past struggles and recent triumphs. Overall, I'd put them better than the 2011 team, about on par with the 2012 team (maybe slightly better if I had to choose), but not as good as the 2013 team.

If we send tickets back it wont be many. Keep in mind the LARGE insurance company just discount double checked a few thousand people and relocated then from the friendly confines of Normal to Dallas, Texas where they are slated to open a new regional hub.
Also, its our friggin first time in the NC. The bandwagon is getting larger by the day. We couldn't sell tickets for our opening playoff game, yet for the Semi-Final game we had watch parties for our Alumni Association in Chicago, Atlanta, New Orleans, LA, Denver, as well as about 5-6 locations locally in B/N.

I think the Bison defense is going to kick some ass in the NC game. They have been beat up the last half of the year and 3 weeks rest will definitely help.

In 2011 SHSU was pretty good, a fake punt and an INT was basically the difference in that game. I could see this game being similar, a few plays deciding it.
I think some Bison fans are getting some false confidence after rushing all over SHSU in the second half...SHSU hadn't had a bye in a few months. That team was ripe to be run over, ISUr will come in rested and they know us well. NDSU needs to get Vraa back, need a playmaker at receiver and somebody that can take the attention off Crockett.

Think this will be a pretty close game...Was surprised yesterday when I was watching the ISUr vs N.Hamp. game at the amount of FBS transfers for ISUr. Seemed like they had more than a few. Not saying this is a bad thing. The ones we have picked up have usually had at least 3 years available and have worked out really well so far.
It seems to me that if you are going to play in the FCS you recruit FCS caliber high school players and stick by them. Otherwise, join the FBS. I think what happens, take Coach Keeler at Sam Houston State for an example, he gets the head coach job and the expectation is to get the program back on the winning track. How do you do that almost immediately, go out and bait malcontented FBS players. And it works. You essentially have overpowered teams against teams that have been sticking to the unstated principles of FCS football. Coach Talley at Villanova and Coach Mac at New Hampshire will have none of this transfer business. They want to be able to look the prospective high school player in the eye and say that if you work hard in the system you will eventually play and not be overridden by some FBS malcontent. I think this philosophy works in the long run but it can be heart breaking in the short run.
I say, No transfers. If you are good enough to be recruited as an FBS player, stay there, don't be a predator.

It initially said allocated according to priority points. It will now includes alumni and students. I know things are different in Illinois, but in 48 other states that a violation of the ucc.

I disagree. We will run all over ISU. NDSU by 12 minimum.

Much respect for the run you've had. Much respect.
But it ends this year and there will be a decent red sized contingent watching it happen. If you're wearing green and yellow in that red contingent? Well... I feel really sorry for you having to sit through it and what you'll have to go through during the game knowing some of our own (who have never seen this in our lives...) were shut out of those tickets due to you wanting to crash the party.

I would be shocked if ISUr has 3,500 fans in attendance. The Redbirds average 7,000 at home in November and December. I can't see that many showing up in Frisco, especially when NDSU fans probably had 10,000 tickets locked up before the allotments came out.

The last 3 games there were many fans sitting with the other teams fans. The NCAA doesnt ask which school you support when you buy tickets from them. They also sold 3 year packages. There hasnt been any problems.

NDSU has set the gold standard in FCS football and what you guys have accomplished is nothing short of incredible. Bohl sold himself short by leaving and going to Wyoming, but the team proved it simply wasn't just about him. Great season, hell, great three/four year run. Bison fans need to get their panties out of a bunch and accept the fact that Illinois St is going to try to sell their own tickets to their own fans first regardless of what the original "terms" were.
Regardless of how the ISU ticket office sorts this out, like many have already said, there will be tickets available for anyone that wants them for face value or close to it in the days leading up to the game. Hopefully both sides leave the childish butthurt out of it and enjoy the game, it'll be a lot more fun for everyone.

Even though you excluded me from answering, I will anyway. ISU put the tickets out to the public domain. They were purchased by the public.
No smug intended, but your ticket office made the error. Calling people who purchased the tickets "thieves" is a bitch move.

May be valid perspective. But we're all new to this .. NDSU has done this at FCS and D-II level many times .. good for them that they get all the support and have experience playing this game. But that does;t mean they can have our tickets.
And look at it from our perspective for a minute … we have lot of excited fans trying to figure out how to do this, make plans, not sure if they will even get their game tickets, They also have to decide about plane tickets or drive plans, taking time off work, hotels, etc. This is all new to us. Then to hear Bison jumped the line to take our ISU ticket allotment because our ticket office didn't originally realize they had to worry about this; and then here we sit without our having any idea initially how it would get resolved.
Some Bison fans are acting like they are entitled to our tickets because they know how to game the system because they've done this many times. That's just stupid .. in fact, its more stupid than our ticket office that they think we should roll over now that we figured it out.
it is very simple .. we will use our tickets as we see fit. if any are left over, and Bison fans are still in line, then they can have them. But we sure as hell are not rolling over.

Understand this. The NCAA got greedy and sold 2 and 3 year packages starting last year.. They started selling single tickets in Aug I believe and keep releasing tickets. They arent giving teams as many as they did during our first championship. NOW HERE IS WHERE YOU COULD BE MISTAKEN. your TICKET ALLOTMENT MIGHT NOT BE IN JUST one SECTION. We had our allotment spread out over 3 sections last year. So look forward to your to be also.
