Best player I saw this year. Just decided he would win games sometimes. Fantastic player.

I expect Jacob Huesman to win the Payton next year [very similar player], though Robertson could win it again, too.

Well deserved John !!!!

We have been spoiled at Villanova. We have been fortunate enough to see the likes of 3 Payton recipients - Finneran, Westbrook & now Robertson.

Brett Gordon was the runner up to Tony Romo for the Payton award. And, you can't forget Matt Szczur. None of this success would be possible without Andy Talley and his coaching staff keeping Villanova as one of the top FCS teams. Thanks for spoling us over the years.

Merry Christmas.

How close did Szczur come to winning? He was a dynamic player on their title team. He must've been stuck behind Armanti Edwards and maybe a couple others in the voting.

Congrats to JR and Villanova. No real complaints here, he had the best numbers overall (per game basis is a different story though). Hopefully VA can stay healthy, he should be a considerable favorite to win it next year.

Not even close.

'09 he had 9 points as a write in, good for 21.
In '10 he was injured for a good 4 or 5 games and didn't get any votes. OL Ben Ijalana was 10th with 75 points and 3 first place votes. QB Whitney was 14th with 28 points and 2 first place votes

Really rooting to a JR/VA matchup in next year's playoffs. But this time on green turf

I didn't get much of a chance to watch JR play this year, and while his passing yards are nowhere near the top, I'm guessing his ability to lead the team and make timely plays made him as deserving as all the rushing yards he gained. Plus it's hard to root against a Talley coached kid.

Congrats to the Cats fans.

Way to go JR. Hoping VA can stay healthy and pull another award for EWU.

And when he was hurt. Played like half the season with a broken hand and a hip pointer

Congrats to John, amazing year, but so bittersweet, did they have to give this award out so soon after our playoff loss he didn't participate in?!?!

(yes I know the award ceremony was planned long ago and it's not like they could just move the date for my feelings)

Seeing this kid develop as a starter for 3 years has been fun to watch. At least all wasn't lost with this season! Next year's Payton race is going to be crazy.

Sadly John didn't bring his trophy to our final we had today, but the class did give him a round of applause.

What little it meant before we lost Saturday obviously means even less now, but back to that "Is Nova elite?" argument from earlier in the year, having more Payton winners than any other school has to be mentioned for the "yes" side
