I was just thinking that this game reminds me a little of NDSU-UNH last year. SHSU has talent no question but I don't think they're as good as SDSU or CCU. They got hot at the end of the year and road that, some mojo and a little good fortune to the semi's....

Gordon 346 carries 2196 yards. 27 TD's. 14 games. 14 starts.

Check that, 2124 net gained. Previous number didn't account for carries when he lost yardage.

Still waiting for x factor to acknowledge Gordon is the ndsu single season rushing record holder. Despite playing in fewer games.

Also, hoping Illinois state wins tomorrow so the championship game is at least mildly interesting.

can you repeat the part where you said all about the things?

so let me get this straight. You're saying runner x is the SINGLE SEASON rushing leader even though runner Y ran for more yards for the same team in a SINGLE SEASON??? That's what you are saying???

SHSU shocked me with how they shut down NDSU's offense in the first half. Not sure what adjustments NDSU made after the half, but SHSU obviously didn't have time to respond to them.

Great season, Bearkats. Future looks pretty bright in Huntsville.

No. Runner X ran for more yards... We'll call him Gordon. At school y, we will call it NDSU... And runner z, we'll call him... Crockett. Runner X ran for over 2100 yards in 14 games. Runner Z still has not gotten to that level.... Despite playing in an additional game.

NDS....I mean... School Y has deliberately screwed over runner X.

According to the NDSU media guide Gordon rushed for 1723 yards in 2000. That sounds about right. Not sure if there are playoff yards that were not included or not. It really doesn't matter that much anyway

The media guide is not counting his playoff yards. But Crockett gets his counted? No. That's bull.

Records are made to be broken but you can't just change the criteria to this level. Gordon gets to count his 11 game regular season but not his playoff games.... While Crockett gets to count 16 games. No **** Crockett will break the record.

If you want to count playoff games, fine. I don't agree with it, I'd say the regular season is what should count but that's not important. What is important is consistency. If you count one guys playoff games, you should probably go through the effort to count the other guys as well. It's not even hard. The info is right there on the school athletic site.

It is the stupid way the NCAA does official stats. I've had some interesting discussions with statistics guru Jim Wright of the NCAA on that front. They won't go back and retroactively change anything. No one was hurt more by those decisions than the great Adrian Peterson of Georgia Southern, who had a truckload of yardage in postseason play.

When Appalachian State won its three straight titles, they used to keep the ticket office open after the semifinal games and sold tickets right at the stadium. I remember going and writing my game story for that ASU-Richmond Friday night semifinal classic in 2007 and coming out and seeing that they were just closing up shop in the ticket office. It was wild, but fun.

Seems like once they put on the Bearkat uniform, they should be considered Sam Houston State players through and through, not FBS. However, announcers love to bring it up, and I'm not sure why. Maybe it's to pique the interest of FBS fans watching?

Justin Howard caught at TD pass for UW-Whitewater tonight. The announcers didn't feel the need to mention that he transferred there from NDSU.

That looked a lot like some of the Bison games earlier this year, slow start and then big second half. I think the Bison physical offense mixed with SHSU having played so many games in a row was a huge factor. Getting that first round bye and having home field is so massive in the playoffs.

Bison defense stepped up big though after a rough game last week. Offense has some issues with injuries, depth at receiver is almost non-existent. Hoping Vraa can get back for Frisco. We will need him.

Ahh... But you CAN. In fact... they DO. You may not like it. You're not alone. But whining about it won't change anything.

A. P. ran for what he ran for. Lamar Gordon ran for what he ran for. So did Johnny Crockett. No record books will change what they did on the field.

Eventually it won't matter even in the record books, because even if you were to include post-season stats for those before 2003 or whatever, the records will eventually be broken. In the meantime, anyone who actually cares can mention the asterisk behind Crockett's new record. And then let it go.

It is weird to me how far behind some of you guys are on some of this stuff. Yes it's bull. Dave Dickenson, Adrian Peterson, hell a host of HOF type FCS'ers didn't have their stats in playoffs counted dude. This did not change until probably 2003 or so but they all shoul be retroactively redone in my mind but it's apparently a lot more of aproblem than it would seem to be.

I think KC played it a bit to conservative, down 7-0 with 4th and 1 at the 30 he kicks the FG, that one I can accept, but than he does it again.... and missed.... go for it Keeler, you were going to have to score some points to have a chance...

KC obviously is doing something right, he's a great interview, probably a pretty good motivator, has a good plastic surgeon and hair dresser, says the right things, loads up on transfers to give himself a chance to win, gets good assistant coaches to do the coaching while KC does the talking, mentions lunch with Joe Flacco at the drop of a hat and is now 3-1 in the past 11 years in FCS semi-finals..... not bad at all

In the 1st half the SHSU defense impressed me a lot more than the offense. The defense was fast and they were gap sound right away. SHSU would load the strong side of the field with #40 and then NDSU started to run away from the strong side and started to gain yards running. SHSU's defense wore out in the 2nd half.

With 22 starters back next year, SHSU will be a force.

I missed the game, but the stats look like it was a much closer than the score. Congrats SHSU on the great season.

Avatar challenge. Go Chants!

Uhhh...It was an utter domination in the second half. The Kats couldn't do anything.

So I don't remember that last post? I should really hide my stuff when drunk me comes around so he can't do dumb stuff. I have no idea what I was trying to say or think. But overall, that was a good game to watch and finally the Bison though it was a good idea to come out and be a 2nd half team and not make me fret/havw a heart attack for a 3rd game in a row.

I think it was the 3rd TD in the 3rd quarter, the Bison ran the same running play 4 or 5 times in a row and SHSU couldn't stop it and knew it was coming....xlolx

Hey Bison fans. We have complained about penalties all year...we had ONE for 5 yards. A delay of game. Clearly we were too loud in the Dome. xrotatehx

It was nice to see the stupid penalties go away. I thought their were plenty of penalties out there on both sides, the refs just didn't see/call them.

Also, I read on BV and had one of my friends who sits over by the pressbox who confirmed this: Tim Polasek (OC) was pounding on the glass yelling "GO GO GO GO! THEY ARE GASED! GOOOO!!!" when we were doing this series because he could see just how down and out the SHSU defense was in that drive.

I have a headache. That is all..... Actually, also Congrats to SHSU and their fans on a hell of a season and a very bright future. I doubt we've seen the last of each other.

Im starting to like what he is doing for the Bison offense. I know I was harsh on him at first but I am really liking the expanded passing game. Props to Polasek to getting his stuff together

Oh I feel bad I haven't said this yet:

Sam Houston State. You guys are fun to bicker and mess around with, you always seem to have good football teams too. I'm glad we've been able to win the series currently at 4-1, but almost all of the games could have went either way (namely the first one in 07 and the game in 11). Keeler will be bringing back lots of talent and clearly he knows what to do with them. Probably only two offensive linemen away from a really really good team. I'm sure we'll see you again, and it'll be fun, just like always.

PJ was held every play. Let's not go short sighted. Your center I think it was held a lot.

So let's see, that means one of two things, based on your statement:

1. The officials missed something on "every" play or, at least, on "a lot" of plays. ... Wow, they must really have been looking somewhere else. You should probably call the NCAA and report this.

OR

2. You don't know what the actual definition of holding is.

Watch the replay and shut up. My whole point is the refs let both sides get away with a lot.

Both sides were holding. SHSU also had some pass interference that never got called, NDSU had some calls as well that didn't get called.

That's my point, don't complain about refs if you got away with the same penalties too.

When there was an injury timeout for #73 with 9:10 to go in the 2nd quarter, you could see a couple of linemen on one knee. Is that something they normally do as a show of support for a team mate or were they already gassed?

If one of the lineman is down all the other offensive lineman usually take a knee for there "brother" in the trenches.

The officials crew was big south but the referee and umpire are also ACC officials and I've been told are doing the Cotton Bowl this year. Impressive crew. Probably why they let them play more than others in my opinion. Used to some big time games.

I did watch the replay, and no, I won't shut up.

But if you are agreeing that whatever standard of "holding" this officiating crew was following was applied equally to both teams, then we have no beef, my friend.

Our o-line probably did have some holding but they totally dominated SHSU's D-line in the 2nd half. Emanuel had an outstanding game even getting mugged on every play.

John Crockett in the postgame interviews "So I knew we were going to run our power, but I didn't realize we were going to run it 6 times in a row, I was kind of gased."

That series of plays was awesome. If i remember correctly the offense got good standing ovation on those ones.

That game last night was a lot of fun! I just wanted to say congratulations to SHSU on their season. As others have said had anyone suggested that they would have made it to the national semifinals after the CSU Pueblo game they would have been driven to the loony bin but their team really came together and had a heck of a nice run.

I kind of feel bad for the guy to my right last night in section 5 as he was between my yelling and the field. Dang my vocal chords are sore today.

I am glad I bought my National Championship game tickets yesterday morning. I got my hotel reservation done and all I have to do is book my flight.

This has been an incredible run by NDSU the last 5 years and as a fan I feel extremely blessed to be part of it.

Refs sometimes decide to not "involve" officiating unless its called for.
The linesman will hold as much as they can, to feel out the refs.
If its getting called they back off.
Am I really the only one who is aware of this?

You're right on.

The rules of any officiated sport are open to interpretation at the mercy of those with the whistles. I have no beef with this, as long as both teams are treated equally with respect to how things are or are not called.

Winners are flexible, and adjust and adapt. Losers complain that the officials were biased overall, or that the interpretation of the rules as being applied to that contest took them out of their game and that they were thereby disadvantaged.

Then they take their little balls and go home.

^^^^^I agree with this. As long as it is called consistently both ways I for the most part have no problems with officiating.

But there are instances when officials decide game because the do not enforce penalties at written in the rule book. In those cases, and granted they are rare, the entire squad of officials should at the very least have to go back to school. Even one official on a squad could stop them and pull out the rule book to say "look this is the rule and the penalty" if all go along with the error all are wrong.
