Tennessee is talking with Tennessee State about perhaps meeting Sept. 5 at Nashville's LP Field in the Vols' 2015 season opener, The Tennessean reported Sunday.
The Vols originally were scheduled to play UAB on Sept. 5 at the home of the NFL's Tennessee Titans, but the Blazers discontinued their football program Tuesday, leaving Tennessee scrambling to find a replacement just nine months away from the start of next season.
LP Field serves at the home field for Tennessee State, a Division I Football Championship Subdivision school in Nashville.
Tennessee and TSU never have played in football.
