Surprised to see no mention of CJ Smith, CB and PR from NDSU. He's one of the top cover corners in the conference 11 PBUs and 12 passes defense (don't ask me what the difference is) and a 13.8 yard punt return average.

Wow!! CJ is the best CB in the conference PERIOD!!! Also Champion should have easily been Honorable mention....


But for CJ to not be on any team is a JOKE!!!!!!

Thought Busher and O'Brien were for sure 2nd teamers, yet Busher doesn't even make Honorable Mention. 3rd on the team in tackles, 2nd on the team for takeaways and passes defensed (as a LB) and numerous other categories where he was right there with other guys like Farley, McMakin, Ales, Williams, etc... He also had to miss a game or he very well could've been the team leader in quite a few of those. In fact he was 3rd in the conference in tackles per MVFC game with 8.9 and 2nd in interceptions with 3 during conference play.

Also, guys like Kintzel, Lally and Nwadiogbu were more productive than a Pat Meehan or Carlton Littlejohn in conference play and they got stuck below him. I'm wondering what the criteria was for LB selections since it appears to have been much more than just conference stats. We have so many good backers in this conference though, it's tough to be too upset with the names chosen. The talent gap is minimal from 1st team to HM.

I'm surprised that Sewall and Banks weren't 1st team. They are two of the better DB's IMO. Smith is right there too

Carlton Littlejohn is one of the best if not the best LBer in the conference. He has a very good chance of playing on Sunday next year.

Is he 38 or 52/53 for the Bison? Maybe I'm confusing him with Beck. Both are good, but I remember one of them standing out for me. I thought it was Beck but it's whoever #38 is. I suppose I could look that up myself though.

#38 is CLJ and yes he is a stud...He will be back to playing his best position now that Beck is out...

That's Littlejohn, both he and Beck are undersized for LBs (Littlejohn is 220 and Beck is 210) but they're aggressive enough to be good run defenders and pass defenders. I think Littlejohn has a shot at Safety at the next level due to his athleticism and versatility (he was an all-state QB in Minnesota in high school).

I love NDSU's defense, and their defensive backfield, but to have both safeties on the first team is based more on past years' performance than on this years' performance. Also, to have 4 safeties on the first team seems just a little odd to me, and to exclude the most productive safety in the conference... Oh well, I guess the Sycamores should be happy with the playoff selection.

I kind of agree with that, I'm not sure if Heagle has had a first team year. Don't get me wrong the guy is a stud but I think its more of a respect thing that comes with the career he has had.

At least in the MVFC the POY awards seem to be more of a career achievement award and the all-conference teams are based more so on that particular year. Thus Perish being a 4 year starter at Indiana St gives him more "clout" in the POY voting than in the all-conference voting. There was a similar controversy two years ago when Matt Brown, QB from Illinois St, won the Offensive POY and by most accounts Zach Zenner had a better year statistically but because Zenner was a Sophomore and Brown was a Senior the nod went to Brown. That's what I would attribute it to in this case.

Not saying that's right... just that it's how it is.

How about 99 tackles, 4 interceptions, 13 PBUs, 3 fumble recoveries, 4.5 TFLs, and 4 QB hurries? It's also at least in line with the safeties that were named to the 1st team.

Point being is I'm pretty sure I heard on the broadcast on Saturday that he's the active leader in career passing yards in the FCS so he's had a pretty extended career for a college QB.

Im sure I know why there were 3 RBs and 2 WR but I doubt anyone in the league has that configuration as their starting lineup

If you had Johnson, Zenner and Coprich it'd be hard not to consider it. Heck, put DJ at TE or WR and you probably don't lose anything. NFL scouts certainly don't seem to think so.

All 3 of Coprich, Johnson, and Zenner definitely belong on the 1st team. There are excellent RBs on almost every Valley team, but those 3 stand out, with very little to separate them in terms of production this season. Crockett, Baker, Ruiz also had great years, but not quite at the same level. You could say the same thing for many of the positions, and worthy players have to finish 2nd sometimes. The leading tackler in the league was honorable mention, and as previously mentioned, great years by players like the NDSU CBs get overlooked. I just don't like the players being selected because of their careers rather than the current season.
