If there is another game images thread from Saturday, I looked but did not find it.

I have some UMass-Maine images up on my UMass Football Blog (http://umass74.blogspot.com/).

Nothing great, but they give you the flavor of the day. We had another nice crowd or 13,100. That's even better because Amherst-Williams was playing in Amherst at the same time.

The Amherst-Williams game is the "old money" game :D

The bride is hinting that she got me my long desired Digital SLR for christmas. With a 135mm lens (effectively over 200mm with a digital camera), I will have the potential to get better close-ups.:nod:

My current point-and-shoot is really frustrating because of the time lag between pulling the trigger and waiting for the camera to cycle through its setup time and actually taking the image.

Save your images to an imaging-hosting site like Hello (http://www.hello.com/) , use the save for web image size.

Then when you post here, link to your images. You would have to use one link per image.

The easiest thing to do if you do not have photo software is to open the photo in paint and then click image and then stretch/skew and reduce it the same percentage length and width.

I have a 350D with a newly acquired 135 2.0 lens. Very sweet combo. Haven't used it for sports yet (I did shoot an NFL Europe game with a 70-200 a while back), but it is s-h-a-r-p plus the AF is lightning fast. You sure have a sweet bride :D

Trust me, you won't ever touch that P&S once you start using your dSLR.

No kidding! I have the same camera. It takes some darn good pictures. I've been a professional videographer for some time, but just got into stills about a year or so ago. I've ended up making quite a few bucks off off of this camera selling pictures and if you can afford it, BUY IT!

I do have a little 4.0 mp point and shoot that I use as a kick around camera though, but NEVER use it to take stock photos to sell.

I have a Canon 20D that I love. On of the parents of a player has a Canon EF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS Zoom lens that he lets me borrow. Which is great for the low light night games we play. The Canon EF 75-300mm F/4-5.6 IS Zoom lens I own has a tough time with night games. It works great fro day games though.

Is this an actual fight or a joke?

Actual fight. Between VMI keydets and Citadel Cadets. About 20 people involved on sideline saturday. Only lasted about 1 minute and broken up without incident. No player or coaches involved...in fact it happened during the game and I am not even sure the teams realized it happened. They were fighting over a fake bulldog mascot that the VMI Keydets brought and over the team flags. That picture is a little one sided as the Keydets were greatly outnumbered. I thought the entire corp was going to empty onto the field, but were stopped by the Commandant. It happened right where the VMI cheerleaders were standing, and as you can see they did not back down.

The 20D is a very nice camera. It's like the other guy said, "once you use an SLR, you'll never go back!" The 4-5.6 lens would be a little more tough for the night games, it just doesn't let in all the light that you want.

Make sure you take photos of ALL the required pieces for the rebate. The company handling the rebates (it was not Canon) tried to screw me out of a huge rebate (at the time, a Canon 20D, 50/1.4, and a 70-200/2.8 IS). I ended up contacting Canon and luckily had photographs of all the product, all the forms filled out correctly, and all the product names and UPC's (both from the boxes) that were required.

I envy all of you that have good lighting at your stadiums. The Fargodome has horrendous lighting, and I need to shoot at 1600 with a 70-200/2.8 nearly wide open. The local paper gets to use a 200/1.8 :eek:

That's the same situation I have at night games. 1600 ISO and nearly wide open with the 70-200/2.8. Even have the same thing with the local paper photographer. I envy the lenses that Brad Pucket, the American Press photographer has to use.

The images can get somewhat noisy, but the newer Canons are pretty good for shooting at such high ISOs. There's always post-processing.......

I hate adjusting my pics in post. I hardly ever do it. It's time that I escape that mindset though. After all, I alter my video in post.

Are any of you also pro-videographers? If so, have you had a chance to use the newer panasonic 200's?
