View Full Version : MEAC Title Possibilities

Not sure if this has been tackled anywhere else, but heading into Saturday the MEAC could have anything from an NC A&T solo championship to a 5-way tie (Morgan St, SCSU, BCC, NCC and NCA&T) as well as anything in between?
Is there a consensus on who wins the tiebreakers in those possibilities? Will the crazy points system still decide most of them?

I'm going to answer my own question:
NC A&T - Morgan State W; SCSU/NCCU L Points (8)
Morgan State - NCCU/SCSU W; NC A&T L Points (0)
BCC - NCCU W; SCSU L Points (10)
SCSU - NC A&T/BCC W; Morgan State/NCCU L Points (4)
NCCU - NC A&T/SCSU W; Morgan St/BCC L Points (0)
With the 5 way tie, since the 5 teams did not all play each other, the tiebreaker would move to 2nd step which is a points system for OOC wins and BCC would have the edge from its FBS win over FIU. BCC would also win any four-way or three-way ties because of the points as well. The only head-to-head tie that's possible is with NC A&T who they didn't play, so that would end the same way as the other ties. So, if A&T loses this weekend, BCC just has to beat FAMU to take the title. Now, on the off chance they don;t take care of business, we'd be left with:
1. A four-way tie between NC A&T/SCSU/Morgan St/NCCU. Thankfully, those teams all played each other:
NC A&T - 1-2
Morgan St - 2-1
SCSU - 1-2
NCCU - 2-1
Morgan State wins the tiebreaker with a H2H win over NCCU.
2. Three-way ties (only two possible)
A&T/Morgan St/NCCU - 1-1 against each other so A&T wins on points
A&T/SCSU/NCCU - NCCU 2-0 takes the title
3. Two-way tie between A&T/NCCU - NCCU b/c of H2H win
So, for those of you watching at home, here's how the MEAC plays out:
1. If NC A&T wins against NCCU, they're in
2. If NC A&T loses, BCC is in with a win over FAMU
3. If BCC loses, then:
3a. If Morgan State loses, NCCU is in; or
3b. If Morgan State and SCSU win; Morgan State is in; or
3c. If Morgan State wins and SCSU loses; A&T is in
So, there you have it. NC A&T controls their own destiny, then BCC does, then it's a mess. The only team that can't get in is SCSU.

FAMU is playing better, I can see them upsetting BCU. Praying DSU hasnt already quit and can shock Morgan State. Here is the weekly NCCU show:

According to HBCU Gameday, if NCCU wins, and the other three schools win, Morgan State will advance as the qualifier. http://www.hbcugameday.com/2014/11/meac-tie-breaker-possibilities-are.html
This site does not reference their source though. It doesn't make sense since several teams did not play each other.

They would have the best record in games against the tied teams at 2-1, but as you said, since they didn't all play H2H, it would go to points and BCC would take the auto-bid.

The Durham herald sun confirmed the HBCU game day tie breaker scenario. If Morgan State receives the. Auto-bid, A&T still has a great case for inclusion seeing as they beat the bears 45 - 0. You read it here first so don't act shocked. Lol....
NCCU plans on messing it up for everybody !

You and I don't normally agree, at least on Coastal anyway, but this is a nice breakdown. That tiebreaker scenario is crazy.

At some point this week, the MEAC posted the official tiebreaker scenarios.
http://www.meacsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=98110&SPID=12081&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=209772766&DB_OEM_ID=20800
MEAC Tiebreaker:
1. If NCAT wins: (AQ: NCAT)
3. If NCCU wins, NCAT loses, BCU loses, MSU wins, SCSU loses (AQ: NCAT)
6. If NCCU wins, NCAT loses, BCU loses, MSU wins, and SCSU wins (AQ: MSU)
8. If NCCU wins, NCAT loses, BCU wins, MSU wins and SCSU loses (AQ: BCU)
9. If NCCU wins, NCAT loses, BCU wins, MSU wins, and SCSU wins: (AQ: MSU)
I edited them to adjust for the fact that Morgan State has pretty much won their game. Crazy to think that NC Central can only win it for someone else.

With NCCU, Morgan State and SCSU winning, it's down to overtime between FAMU and BCC and FAMU just scored to go up 17-10. It's either BCC or unbelievably a 5-loss Morgan State team. With the way the bubble is collapsing, a 9-3 NC A&T could still be alive.

Well, BCC just scored and went for two to win in OT 18-17. They just punched their ticket and MSU goes home.

Based on the post from the previous page, it looks like MSU got the autobid...

Since the committee loves to put in teams that tie for a conference title, I guess we can expect all 5 to make it (just like the CAA 2 years ago, right? - Believe they only took 2 of the tied teams plus ODU)
Seriously though, I would not be surprised to see A+T and BCU as at-large teams which is ridiculous after both of their performances today plus BCU's for the last 3 weeks, but I'll hold off judgement until the picture clears a little bit more.

No. I wouldn't be surprised if A&T or BCU advances though. But A&T is going to have to fix their offense and special teams though. I find it hard to believe that the team we saw today gave Coastal Carolina that much trouble. Both teams fumbled the ball into the end zone, and them trying to avoid kicking to our punt returner was simply hilarious at times.

Probably just bankrupted the MEAC. You'll probably see this purple guy begging for change at the corner of your local shopping center soon...
