Iowa's pink visitors' locker room

I learn something new every day! :D

I never knew Iowa put their visitors in a pink locker room. The pink locker room was former coach Hayden Fry's idea. Fry was a psychology major who knew that pink was "calming", a mood that's not fit for football.

I also learned that Iowans weren't happy with the pink locker room idea because it offends women and homosexuals. The athletic department did it because pink was calming, not because it was girly. Also, pink doesn't mean girly or homosexual. A lot of heterosexual men wear pink to please their women!

One more thing. Former Michigan coach Bo Schembechler (sp?) would have his assistants paper the walls before letting the players in! xsmileyclapx

Iowans where not upset about the pink locker room. In fact most where for it. If I remember right the uproar about it started with a visiting prof. who thought that it wasn't PC and made a big stink about it.

Actually it was an Iowa Professor who made the stink, I would guess she had 2 supporters. The next game Iowa had a Pink Out.:hurray:

Also, reason Iowa's uniforms are like the Pittsburgh Steelers was Fry's doing. He copied them in the 70's when he took over because the Steelers were so dominate then, an intimidation thing

funny thing related to this, as i was touring the new MAC center at UNI, i asked our AD what color the locker rooms were going to be painted, and he looked at me with the most serious glare ever(and for those of you who don't know Mr. hartzell even when he's happy he looks pretty pissed) and siad NOT PINK. yeah so that's my story.
