Tonight, before approx. 1,750 in Grace Hall, Lehigh's wrestlers squared off against each other to earn their starting positions. Most intriguing was David Craig and Pat Flynn, natural freshmen at 184 and 197 respectively, winning big by falls. Will they redshirt or get thrown into the mix this year? Craig looks like everything as advertised as the #1 overall wrestling recruit in the country. He has already won four matches this year at the WVa Open Tournament, thereby running his undefeated string from high school to 184-0! Matt Cassidy, Lehigh's regular 197 had arthroscopic surgery a couple weeks ago and was still seen limping, so unknown who might take the redshirt..The Mountain Hawks will be awfully young this year, but could surprise a number of people along the way, especially by tournament time in March.

Once again they have a brutal schedule just like their football team.

Thanks for the updates, I'm a huge wrestling fan. Unfortunately my school doesn't have wrestling anymore :bawling:
I made it to one Lehigh meet last year - against Ariz. St, hope to get to more this year. Does Lehigh run into Maryland this year? I'd love to see another Craig - Mike Letts match.

Good luck Cal Poly, your schedule is brutal.

Connor McDonald (119)... one of the top wrestlers in Delaware gave a verbal to Lehigh last week...

Seven wrestlers from the First State are ranked in W.I.N.’s preseason individual rankings, placing Delaware 14th among the nation’s 48 wrestling states.
McDonald became the first Class of 2007 recruit to announce that he would attend Lehigh University, selecting the Mountain Hawks over Indiana, Illinois, Maryland and Virginia Tech.

Delaware has some pretty stong HS wrestling programs going... there are less than 40 HS wrestling throughout the entire state... but DE has five wrestlers ranked in W.I. N.'s preseason national individual Top 10... McDonald was ranked 4th at 119.

Yes, it was in this morning's paper along with a few others from around the US. Our recruiting is getting pretty 'national'. We'll be needing to stock up in the light weights, so glad to see we're getting an excellent one in McDonald.
David Craig (the Nation's #1 recruit this year) will NOT redshirt this year and will take his 184-0 unbeaten streak into varsity collegiate wrestling as a true freshman. (He already won the WVa. Open Tournament last week). He looked extremely stong at the wrestle-offs. More impressive than either Mark Lieberman or Jon Trenge as freshmen. He's certainly face his share of horses in upcoming matches, especially next week against Michigan.
