A Mount St. Joseph's freshman with an inoperable brain tumor that has a zero percent two-year survival rate can now play one last game on November 2 against Hiram, almost two weeks earlier than the game's original date.

"....the school decided to petition the NCAA to move the game up a couple weeks in a move that should enable Hill to suit up for one last time. And in a surprising decision that shows some humanity on its part, the NCAA has agreed to reschedule the game for early November.

For Hill, it’s one last chance to play the game she loves so much."

Lauren Hill will have a shot to play college basketball, and it took Mount St. Joseph, Hiram and the NCAA to make it happen.

Hill, a freshman at MSJ, was diagnosed nearly a year ago with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, a pediatric brain cancer that affects around 300 children in the U.S. each year. She finished her high school basketball career while receiving chemo treatments and enrolled at Mount St. Joseph with the intent of playing basketball there as well.

However, the calendar was against her. With the season not set to open until Nov. 15, at Hiram, the odds were long that she would make it to the opening tipoff. More than 90 percent of patients die within 12 months, and Hill received her diagnosis in November 2013.

For all the hits they take when they are wrong, the NCAA got it right this time. Best of luck to her in this game.

I read about this yesterday. Let's hope she can keep up her strength to be able to play in this game. Sad story for her, great job by her coach, school, the NCAA and the other team in getting this game moved up. We need to see more stories like this, and less about autograph scandals.

Good news: The game, to be played at Division I Xavier's arena on Sunday, will be streamed online.

They showed the opening tap and Lauren scoring the first basket live on the big screen at Paul Brown Stadium during a TV timeout late in the Jaguars-Bengals game. Biggest cheer in the stadium the whole afternoon.

Agree. This was a nice act by all parties involved. What a thrill for Lauren and everyone who got to see it.

They usually play in front of 100+/- fans at an average game. Over 10,000 showed up including numerous athletes and celebs to watch her play. When she hit that first layup, that place exploded.

They said they received around 1000 college jerseys from hundreds of different schools with the number 22 on there to auction off for charity.

Over/under 2 years before Disney takes the rights and makes a movie.
